To all you excited prefrosh who have nothing better to do than fantasize about all the activities you want to dive into once you arrive in the fall, here’s one more to consider:

A few friends and I (rising sophomores) are starting a new community service, Project SAT. We will go around to local high schools and tutor underprivileged New Haven students in the verbal, math, and writing sections of the new test. Now I am particularly appealing to all you CCers because I KNOW that you guys know this test inside and out and have mastered it several times over. Also, you are the first year that has taken the new version of the test, so it would be great to have help from students who have actually taken the updated exam. Hopefully it’s still fresh in your mind…

If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, or if you have any questions, please email me at shara.yurkiewicz@yale.edu. We welcome all!

P.S. Also check out the Facebook group “Project SAT.”
Description:
"Amazing how three simple letters can strike fear into hearts of students nationwide. The mission of our group is to try to alleviate some of that stress for local high schoolers. We offer free tutoring sessions to help underprivileged New Haven students gain a better understanding of the concepts on the exam and also to teach them a few tips and tricks that aren’t always found in the review books.

After spending countless hours prepping for takes and retakes of that damn test, after “donating” hundreds of dollars to that “nonprofit” organization that is Collegeboard, after the ecstatic realization that you’ll never have to see another Grid-In again…now’s your chance to relive your love/hate relationship with the ETS. And to guide someone whose place you were in just a few years ago.

We welcome any donations of old review books or new brainpower!"

Thanks so much for your help, and looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Sounds like a great idea.

I agree with apfreak, an awesome idea.
