I plan to finish this semester and then ship off to the Air Force. I will have completed about 25 if I stick this semester out… I planned to pick up where I left off after 4 years with the AF, but someone mentioned that those units may not even be transferable by then. Will I be able to use my 25 units after 4 years in the service or is there a time restraint on such things?
Check with counselors in your CC. I believe that as long as the units are transferable, they stick with you forever.
Also, thank you for your service!
I transferred units that were over 15 years old from a CCC.
@AlbinoBeast
Yeah, they will definitely transfer after 4 years, assuming they are UC-transferable. You’re raising your chances considerably going into the military, especially at Berkeley which is one of the top military-friendly campuses in the nation.
BE SAFE!
You guys are awesome! Thanks!
Only real issue is that if courses and curricula change, some courses, while still transferable for credit units, may no longer articulate to anything useful years later.
^^ I agree with that guy. You might want to complete some general education just so you can have it out of the way and it might be more likely that they will still articulate later on. If youre taking anything major specific than a lot of things could change, especially your own interest in the subject
Agreed with above.
While you’re in though, be sure to take advantage of any educational benefits you may have. In the Army, we had Tuition Assistance and we could take classes for free. I didn’t apply myself and got a few B’s, but if you take one class per semester of classes that should be transferable (and you ensure you get an A … not hard when you have just one class if you apply yourself) … you’ll be surprised what you can have done at the end of ~4 years. It’s a good way to knock out GEs, or to get a bunch of easy A’s to keep your GPA up if.
@MikeSauce and I are both veterans and though neither of us served in the AF, between he and I we can be a fairly good resource for education questions pertaining/related to the military.
Best of luck with your military endeavors! If I may, what are you looking to do in the AF?
The articulation agreements don’t change much or there would be havoc. Not to say that they can’t, but if anything a class is more likely to be added to a major req. Brian made a good point about taking some GEs, one course per semester. That could be 8 classes, nothing to sneeze at.
