I’m a freshman in HS taking Algebra 2 Advanced. We’re doing the class on ALEKS and I have been flying through the topics. I think I’ll be done with the ALEKS topics in about 2 months or so if I’m able to keep up with the pace I’ve been working at. Would I be in a bad position if I were to finish Algebra 2 quickly and join Pre-Calc when the class would already be 2 months in?
It sounds like you are doing it online or at least at a self-paced course. Is there such a thing for Pre-calc so you’d start at the beginning of the course if not at the beginning of the year.
Otherwise, I think you’ll be confused if you cannot do the first two months of a hard class.
I do it in a classroom environment with a teacher but yeah it’s almost entirely self-paced.
Honestly, I don’t know how it’d go. I don’t know if they’d put me in an online class or they’d just put me in and hope for the best.
Is algebra 2 hard? I’m kind of worried cuz I got a B+ in geometry mainly because of careless mistakes and proofs.
So far it’s pretty easy. I’m way better at algebraic math and geometric though
If you have a good grasp of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, go for Pre-Calculus. Check the course curriculum and see what you’re getting into when you get into the class. What level of Pre-Calculus are you taking? Regular or Honors?
We don’t have regular or Honors, I do know it’s a college level course but I’ve never heard anyone struggling with it.
Typically, if your school teaches an easy Algebra II class, it can be expected that the Pre-Calculus class is harder than usual. Conversely, if the Algebra II class is challenging, then the Pre-Calculus class might be a bit easier. You may find it to be a challenge to keep up with the pace of Pre-Calculus, given that you found Algebra Ii easy.
If you joined my precalc class 2 months in, you would be lost.
The final would be exceptionally rough.
I found Pre-Calculus to be harder than Algebra II, yet I did better in that class. I spent much more time with that class because I wanted to take BC senior year. There were more topics in Pre-Calculus that I never learned in Algebra II like Trig Identities and Conics. Be careful with the course, it’s very easy to slip up. Like for me, I didn’t take it seriously my 1st marking period and got a B, but after that I was very diligent in what I did to make sure I did well in the class which landed me with an A-.
When you mean college level, I think you’ll have a big step up from your Algebra II class. So be prepared for a lot of work and studying to make sure you do well in the class. You may have to spend extra time making sure you got the topics down.
