What can I do…? The last college actually had fled with me. I don’t have a legal separation document since it’s not been a big deal. What can I do? Edit to add separated for over 6 years
Are you separated with the intention of getting divorced? Do you live in separate residences…and can you prove this with leases, driver’s licenses, etc?
Are you the parent…or a student?
Student… no, never been an issue and I don’t have the money for a divorce… I have no contact with him and that’s the thing… when I first started back to school th college when on my w-2’s . Is this possible once again. I don’t want problems
Ypunwill need to be able to PROVE you are separated. If you are under 24 years if age, you will likely then become a dependent for financial aid purposes…and will need to use your parent info on the fafsa.
The 2018-2019 financial aid forms are not available for filing until October. Maybe you should get legal separation papers before that time.
Thanks
If you don’t have contact with him, you cannot file a joint return, because he would have to give you his income information and would have to sign the tax return as well.
But since you are married you can file married separately.
How are you filing jointly if you have no contact?
If you do (did) file jointly in 2015 (if that is what is being verified) you’ll have to provide the W2 or other proof that income was yours, not his.
The IRS allows you to file jointly as long as you are legally married. FAFSA allows you to file using just your income if you are separated. You have to keep good records to do both.
Lol…many of us instantly caught the inconsistency. No one can file joint if they have no contact with their separated spouse.
