I want to spend a few years as a travel writer after college and then move to either Barcelona or Florence and be a journalist. Later, I want to move to Munich, Germany. (Im british; no visa req). Do you think being a journalist can afford these cities. I dont know how much journalists make in these countries. In college I will learn German, Spanish and or Italian. I cant find any good information. For example, I found that an apartment in Barcelona and florence costs around 600 euros and 1000 in rome. Although, I don’t see how this information is relevant if I cant tell how much journalists make in these countries. Is Journalism a better career in Europe then it is in the US. Thanks

No matter where you are in the world, journalists aren’t rich. Those who are wealthy are the big name journalists like Anderson Cooper and such. Especially as a journalist right out of college, you won’t be paid much. I have no idea about European cities and their costs, so I’m not sure about that part. I’d assume that in most countries, journalists don’t get paid a lot. It’s a hard field to get into all over the world.

A lot freelance and go where the jobs/action is. I’m sure you can find something online.
