Journalism/computer science double major?

<p>I’m thinking of double majoring in journalism and computer science, or otherwise just minoring in computer science, and I have a few questions about this and how I could do it at Northwestern if I (hopefully!!) get in.

  1. What is the difference between the computer science programs at Weinberg and McCormick and what are the advantages and disadvantages of both?
  2. Is it possible to have a double major between Medill and McCormick?
  3. Is this a double major that makes sense? I have a strange love for both writing and math, and this seems like a great combination. I’d love to work with technology and up and coming news media, so does this double major make sense? Or would it make more sense for the 2nd major to be something like communications or marketing?
    Sorry for packing so much into one question but thanks a bunch!</p>

<p>If you are in the media, computer programming skills won’t help you much. You will never need to program, so it is kind of a waste.</p>

<p>How important is money to you? Your computer science degree will make you money, your journalism degree won’t. </p>

<p>I don’t see that much benefit unless you go into a field like consulting. They would see that you are very well rounded and would probably like that. I would think you would want to stick with the Weinberg computer science because I think it requires less classes, leaving you space for a double major.</p>

<p>As long as you get good grades though, do what you like! Just remember that a computer sceince degree opens a lot more doors than a journalism one if you decide journalism isn’t for you</p>
