Is anyone familiar with it? I’m asked to go to the concert. I have no idea what to expect.
There’s more than one. By us, Resurrection is popular. They tend to play only hits vs album tracks like the real band. It’s a good time.
We have one called THe Great Escape near us. I’m not a Journey fan, so I can’t give a personal opinion, but a lot of people say they are fantastic.
So when does a band become a tribute band of itself? How many original members from their heyday have to still be active?
I may be wrong, but I thought tribute bands typically don’t have members of the original band.
Resurrection has (or had) the former drum tech, who sat in on a show when Deen Castronovo was sick. Of course, he himself is not the original drummer - like most bands, a lot of the personnel is not original.
Is there another Steve Perry out there somewhere?
You have to admit that the current guy sounds just like him. But in that sense, he’s a tribute singer - although they have a few originals.
So we saw a Fleetwood Mac tribute band in Chicago at a local rock bar. It was so much fun. It was like going back to college. Go and have some fun. When in college in Cleveland we saw a Genius tribute band in the early 80 s called Fairweather. They were amazing. Just close your eye’s. Again, so much fun.
It was meant as a metaphysical question. The Who without Keith Moon was still the Who. Without John Entwistle is a closer call. Maybe if Daltrey or Townsend were the only original member, they’d still be the Who because they are so integral to the band. Now you take Queen without Freddy Mercury and replace him with Adam Lambert or anyone else, not so Queen IMO.
Interesting point. But different from the OPs question.
I love the tribute bands because I’m glad that someone is keeping the music alive that I like.
We went to a concert by a Simon & Garfunkel tribute act last spring. I only had mild interest because Art Garfunkel had a singular voice that couldn’t be duplicated. Boy, was I wrong. If I closed my eyes, I wouldn’t have been able to tell that it wasn’t Artie.
When I saw Jersey Boys, same thing. The lead singer had the same range and the same falsetto ability as Frankie Valli.
Is there a dress code? What do you wear?
Unless it’s a formal club, whatever you want. A journey t- shirt. Or any shirt.
Shorts, pants, shirt, other outfit - whatever you want.
Unless the venue has a dress code - there is no dress code.
