<p>They recently laid off ~5% of their workforce due to cuts from NASA, so hopefully you interviewed in a lab that’s been lucky enough to pick up some extra funding.</p>
<p>Yikes! It has taken a little longer than expected for them to get back to me… I was told they are going through some financial exercises. Hoping to hear back soon.</p>
<p>JPL will be laying off about 250 employees (engineers, administrators, all types of positions) within the next month or two (April 2011). Once all the 4 missions launch by years end, there will be more layoffs (this had not been announced yet), since there are no new projects starting up, and there are many questions about the NASA budget.</p>
<p>There is no hiring freeze (since some positions are still not filled, mostly experienced hires and managers), but they will almost completely stop for quite a while.</p>
<p>I have friends who were hired 6 months ago that are on the chopping block, its really sad.</p>
