Who cares? Money is always part of the equation. Would you have worked there if you were getting paid 35k/year full time?

70k-80k is likely. however, if you are taking a jpl job for the money i will personally come over there and drag you off the campus.

I have another national lab offering me 100k, so it’s a tough call. The dream of working somewhere makes you think that you would do anything to work there, but when you actually get all of the choices laid out in front of you, you start to think critically…

Money is always part of the equation, especially in LA, where to have a normal American life with a house, two cars, and a neighborhood where you will not get shot requires a six figure income.

JPL is a special place and it is blasphemy to go there for anything except passion.

I’d rather have a mercenary that gave higher quality work than an impassioned incompetent.

Just because I need to consider all aspects of a career choice does not mean that I am not passionate. Actually, I think the work at JPL is extremely fascinating, and I have wanted to work there since I was a child. However, LA is immensely expensive, especially in the real estate market. There is no harm in looking over the finances before taking a job…

If you really wanted to live there you’d sleep in a van. DOWN BY THE RIVER

… or a long commute.

A similar situation exists in the SF bay area, but some people get around it by living in places like Modesto or Hollister.

Just going back to the question… has anyone who interviewed in 2009-2010 received an offer ?
As far as funding goes this [FY 2011 Fact Sheet](http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/factsheet_department_nasa/) might be good news… govt might be investing more money into unmanned space exploration (mention of 2 new mars probes, dunno if that includes MSL)… but still no details.

Thanks , please post if you receive an offer!

“… or a long commute.”

The drive to Pasadena is simply terrifying or not moving at all. It is like the Autobahn without sense or self control, so I would like to mitigate the commute, if possible. I grew up in a rural area and am very much surprised by the traffic in Southern California.

To answer Robbie2engr’s question, I received offers from multiple teams. I do not wish to discuss the details of them, though, because JPL may consider that information to be confidential.

Welcome to SoCal.

The only way to avoid traffic to Pasadena is to get on the road by 6 AM. That what my girlfriend does every day to drive downtown from here. :(

(Also, really, for the price of living in Pasadena it’s not that nice.)

I interviewed with them in November and just got an offer a couple weeks ago. very excited :)

4 months is a long time to wait for a reply. hey Congrats!

NICE !! Congrats ! I interviewed on the same day as Narek, but I still have not gotten an offer :(

hey guys,

I’m a freshman at MIT, and I’m considering majoring in economics and mathematics. I’ve said I would like to work with earth science/environment. I’ve applied to California Space Grant program and EntryPoint! [Entrypoint: Home](http://ehrweb.aaas.org/entrypoint/)

I’m not sure, but do JPL generally interview all prospective students that they might be interested in? Or do they just select and pick people and then contact the applicants that they got a placement?

For a summer program you might get a phone interview, but I doubt they’d go through the trouble and expense of flying you out or flying someone in for an interview.

but if you didn’t get one, then it doesn’t mean you might not have gotten anything? know any undergrad who got internship or something?

So I received an offer just recently from JPL. 1st onsite interview Nov 19 209. 2nd onsite interview April 21 2010. Offer April 29. Hurray!

I just stumbled on this thread with a search on Google. Congrats on getting an offer from JPL. I have an on-site interview coming up. I’m a EE grad student. Any help on what type of questions I should be prepared for? I have one more semester before I graduate. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I interviewed on-site about three weeks ago (mechanical engineering grad student). Waiting to hear back still.
