I am currently applying to MIT’s MITES program (if anyone knows anything about it, please let me know!!!) and hopefully if I do get in, my chances will probably go up right?

I do realize that I am lacking some leadership except for soccer captain and being selected to meet my county chairman. I am trying to remedy this by running for Model UN president next year and possibly starting my own club as president.
Could anyone please tell me if I am on the right track and how I would stack up in the future for these colleges: ?

Caltech
MIT
US Naval Academy
Carnegie Mellon
Virginia Tech (safety)
Cornell

My major will most likely be Computer Engineering, with a possible double major or minor in Computer Science

Caltech + MIT = most likely no
US Naval Academy = no idea
CMU = possibly (depends on major, if Comp Sci, reach, engineering or any other math/sci related thing, prob yes)
VTech = in

Advice: Improve your SATs for a shot at MIT/Caltech, GPA looks ok, try to increase your rank to top 10%, take Math II and some science SAT for MIT, Caltech and CMU (they require them), and your ECs look decent (try some research perhaps?).

Thanks for the quick response and I appreciate the honesty. Are there any other things that you would recommend for me to boost up my chances?

I know i am probably being dumb, but could you clarify what you mean by “research”? We’ve never talked about it at my school, neither my counselor or my career center specialist.

I personally would replace World or US History with Chemistry or something else science oriented for SAT IIs. And it goes without saying that you should take AP Comp Sci A/AB in school if offered and get a 5 on the AP exam.

ha, i forgot to list my courses!! sorrry

try for RSI this summer maybe? research is something u can submit to intel sts and/or siemens competition

RSI isn’t possible because I did terribly on my writing section of my PSAT and got a 211.

Math: 80
Writing: 60
CR: 71

But I am trying for MITES

Sorry for double post!

Would it be possible to take the SAT II Chemistry when I’m not taking AP Chemistry right now? Wouldn’t it be too difficult? (although I could try to learn it myself, my friends that are taking it claim it to be near-impossible even in class)

even honors chemistry doesnt cover half the topics on the sat 2 test. id strongly recommend ap chem before taking the sat 2 on it. unless you know electrochem, redox reactions, and equilibrium, i suggest waiting

thanks for your advice and suggestions, they helped tremendously!

Anyone else want to chip in?

bump 10 char
