Judge my art supplement!

Skylen C Monaco: Arts Supplement | Supplement Portfolio

Here is the portfolio that I will be submitting to all of my colleges.
I am not going to major in art though...
Tell me what you think
:D

You should get art professionals' opinions. Not ours.

I'd eliminate the skull, personally.

I'm no judge of artwork but there's some impressive stuff in there.

If only the adcom is going to be looking at the portfolio rather than the art faculty, I think the art supplement serves to show a passion for the arts rather than be judged for artistic merit.

That being said, I really like the third picture! And is the first one Cowboy Bebop? :)

I took art in school for 3 years and really got into it. im submitting an art supp too.

Depends which colleges ur submitting it to.

Your level of art looks very good. I doubt it would hurt at all if you submitted it. And I think it will help out a bit. Youre not super-awesome-amazing, but definately really good.

My suggestions: Remove the skull and the guy who looks like he's eating the guitar. Sorry, but it looks so awkward i think it takes away from the piece (or go back and move it around). Maybe add something abstract or super surreal if you can do it easily.

Sorry. idk why i can't type coherent sentences atm, btu hopefully u can decipher this mess.

tl;dr: portfolio is an 8/10, with 6-7 being average for art supps

Yeah, I was thinking of removing the skull. Skidmore requires 4 still lifes. But I suppose I can draw one up pretty quickly this week.

@OrangeDinosaur
yeah, that's Spike. xD

@darkwalrus77
Yeah, I think I will remove the guitar one... Now that I look at it, it does look like he is eating it lol.

I actually really enjoyed the guitar one. The intricate design on the body of the instrument is beautiful.

Yeah I thought that guitar one was cool as well.

A question.. how do you plan to submit the portfolio?
:s

Oh and i feel the 'Coffee Pirates Cat' and 'Church at Vermont' are two of your strongest pieces as they both reflect that you can work effectively using different media.

The only art classes I've taken were in middle school and elementary school, but I LOVE THESE!

@nepgirl
It's part of the Art Supplement. Some schools have different requirements. But all of mine allowed me to do it in this format.

I don't know why there is so much opposition to the skull. Many famous pieces of artwork incorporate skulls, especially those pieces dating from times when "memento mori" was kind of a big deal. Any respectable faculty member of an art department must surely know that the skull is a classical aspect of art and art history. I don't think the skull in this portfolio should be removed simply because it is a skull.

@arcus1
I think it's because it isn't a very well drawn skull. I am drawing a new one as we speak. :B

How did you get the images to have the additional zoomed up boxes?
And, I think your portfolio is fantastic. Even the guy eating the guitar (I didn't notice at first until I read the comments) :D
