Judge my chances please.

hey hey!

SAT’s - 2160(final composite) 1430(M+V)
GPA - 88-89 uw-> ~3.4

-I’m quite involved with music. I’ve been playing guitar for over 6 years now. I take lessons and I also teach kids around my neighborhood. I’m also being trained in classical Indian music(Carnatic)and I spend a lot of my free time composing/arranging my own songs.
-lessons in Capoeira(an Afro-Brazilian style of dance/martial-art)
-Part-time job at CVS/Pharmacy
-Volunteer at the hospital(~120hrs)

Other-
-relatively competetive courseload. I’ll have about 4 hns and 5-6 AP courses by the end of my senior year.
-very competetive public school
-Asian/Indian-bilingual
-recommendations will probably be good and I’ve already started planning out my essays to make them flawless in the final presentation. =)

 • Huge upward grade trend from soph year to junior year…from about an 85 avg to a 93(straight A’s). However, the intensity of my courseload also declined.

You’re in and all I looked at was your SAT. Seriously, as long as you didn’t bomb with a sub-3.0 GPA, you are in. I feel as though Maryland are SAT whores… and I speak from experience.

^^^^ i am starting to think that too. I think they just want their stats too look better compared to other universities and SAT scores are an easy way to look at the selectivity of the schools.

What is your W GPA? a 3.4 UW is probably like a 3.7 or 3.8W and that with such a high SAT score seems good enough.

W gpa?

hmm…I’m not really sure. Though tbh it can’t really be that high. My junior year courseload wasn’t really that tough(only 1 AP) because I kinda bombed my soph year and was forced to drop my hns course because my school is really uptight about prerequisites. But I’m taking a relatively more intense courseload next year to kinda make up for it.

if I had to guess maybe around a 3.5 - 3.6

that is fairly below the UMD average but like testudo said UMD cares for SATs a lot more than school such as michigan would. The UMD weighted average is like 3.96 so a 3.5ish is below it. I still would say you are in. Make sure you apply priority which is before dec. 1st. I know a few kids who messed up by applying late and now are going to PSU or other universities.

Does UMD care more about the weighted than the UW gpa? Or is just like the case with some other schools where they look mainly at the UW gpa but just judge the intensity of your courseload?

Oh does UMD have their own way of calculating gpa? Because I feel my W gpa might be a little low also because my school may be a little stingy with hns and AP weighted credit.
