June 10th ACT

Does the June ACT have experimental? I have heard rumors on this…

Where did you hear that?

According to the Princeton Review:

http://www.princetonreview.com/testprep/testprep.asp?TPRPAGE=141&type=ACT-LEARN

what books to buy for act: give me a list of 3 good books plz.

-Real ACT Prep Guide
-Cracking the ACT (Princeton review)

-also the collegeboard blue book is also good for the act, most of the stuff in the blue book is very similar to whats on the ACT. except critical reading is different, and no science.

so is anyone ready for the june 10 test, right now i’m so tired i did 2 weeks of studying for the sat and now i’m dead tired and ****ed because i think i did bad on the SAT, and now i want to do some practice test but my body is fighting me, and my brain feels dead.

omg me too! but i’m kind of hoping for a good ACT to make up for the SAT score. sadly, science fails me.

what other books besides the Real ACT prep book has “real” practice tests?

Yeah ive been studying my butt off and I dont think im going to do very well still on the reading and science and reasoning. I think I will just wing those sections lol. As far as books go DONT use Barrons. They are terrible! Their tests are nothing like the questions on the ACT. Also, their reading passages have answers that pretty much mean the same thing as one another.

Anyone have any experience with the Thompson Arco book?

I have been studying since April, for quick free good test prep, go to Number2.com also the ACT site has a great online course for 20 that will last you a year with a practice writing test that is scored by the readers…
Also, if you do not do as well on the SAT, you will more than likely do well on the ACT because it is what you know, not logic. The SAT is designed to trap you, which sucks. Its like my brother, he made a 1510 on the SAT and I felt so badly when I couldn’t get to a 1200 however I am 16 and a sophomore in college now, so the SATs aren’t always the best judge of learning ability. Just keep trying and don’t let the evil collegeboard bring you down!

Yes the Thomson Arco book is very good.

Disagree… the ARCO ACT’s practice tests (at least from the version I had) were so horribly blown out of proportion that it would probably make even the smartest people look dumb. The questions were almost nothing like the real ACT’s questions. I think it might even do more harm than good.

As far as Barron’s go, their tests are probably the second hardest, but I wouldn’t actually say to skip reading it if you have it freely available. I found some of the strategy/study parts of the book to be useful.

Oh really? I usually find the English and Math sections accurate, except for maybe the rhetorical part of the English. But I might be inclined to agree with you as far as the science and reading goes, because for some reason it seems a lot harder there then it actually is. I have the 2005 version so yeah.

I can’t say for sure what the scores were as it’s been a few months since I picked up that book, but I believe English was my highest on the ARCO and Science my lowest, similar to what you mentioned. English was 27 (compared to 35 on real test). Science was horrible, I think a 17 (compared to 24 on real test). One thing’s for sure, it’ll definitely bring your confidence down a few notches.
