June 2008- Math Level 2

for the
29. Inverse of f was given, find x for f(x)=5, x=0

question, what you do is to graph the given function, find the x value of the graph that corresponds to a y-value that’s the same as the given constant in the problem?

so basically it’s what’s the x value if f(x)=something, but with a trick that it uses inverse function, while actually going through the same procedure?

beach one is easy if you set up the equation. originally x people going, now only x-2 people go so the cost will have to be recalculated. X turned out to be 8 so divide the given cost in the problem by 6 will get you to the correct answer i think.

it is D) 140 lol ^

Sigh
I just think this test was harder than the collegeboard ones.
I used McGrawHill. Didn’t help.

i didn’t use any book. didn’t help

this test was almost a barron’s level test… definitely harder than collegeboard and PR ones.

aparently barrons supposed to be hard. i didn’t find it that hard

how lon dideveryon spend studying for this? 3 days? 1 wk? 2 wk??

was math IIC hard? i found it relatively easy except for about 4? idk.
what do you guys think. curve or no curve?

i hope it will be 42=800 becuz thats what i got but most ppl say itwill be 43or44=800

0 hours???

i just did a couple of practice test from Meylani, so what… like 7 hours? i guess

4 Sparknotes practice tests
2 SAT II Math for Dummies practice tests
1 Official CB test
and finally, I went over a few misc. topics the day before - vectors, probability, sets, group problems, etc.

so what do you think the curve will be??do you have any information from testts on may jan dec.???

umm. I spent a totaly of like 6 hours studying! lmao
Two days before i went over barrons and figured out how to do crap on the calculator. Next day i took a test.
Then the morning of i looked over sparknotes questions lol
I really did not think it was that hard at all.
I think the curve will be 44 - 800 or 45 even ,because i don’t think CB is generous because tech. they are allready generous by giving such a nice curve!

Just test it on the first 10 consecutive positive integers (you could’ve used the sum/seq function on your calculator if you wanted to). The sum of those integers is 55. Divide by 10 for a mean of 5.5. This is equivalent to the median also. I don’t remember the other answer choices for that one, but they didn’t work when I tested them.

I plugged this one into my calculator and zoomed in on that area. It was 2.76 or something like that.

It’s called a “hole.” It is not asymptotic but no value exists at that point. If you graph x(x-1)(x-2)/(x-2) the calculator will not show this hole; can be tricky.

Oh, and I took both CB practice tests; one had 44 as an 800, and the other had either a 43 or 42. The other raw score conversions were a bit altered as well (there didn’t seem to be a particular formula). I thought this test was fairly difficult (I omitted 11 questions) and I’m a pretty solid math student, so I’m hoping the curve will be more like the latter practice test than the former. It doesn’t look like I have a shot to get anything above a 700 this time around.

bleh i forget the values its like one of them pi/2 works? ad the other one pi works (its on one of the earlier pages)

inverse of inverse of f(x) gives f(x); then its straightforward algebra

after you graph it on your calculator, and view “table” instead
you’ll see x and y values and at x=2, it will read ERROR in y, indicating the discontinuity

the only time a fuction has no y=intercept is if its parallel to the y-axis
this would mean the line is vertical, and has a constant x value ->coefficient of y becomes 0

and to prepare i did the easy easy easy test in the blue subject tests book, one kaplan test, and one sparknotes test, so 4 hours i guesss

why not extrapolate given the curve changes over the years. Or is it inconsistent?

Honestly there’s no need to. The curve will likely be 43 or 44/50. It rarely changes much from that.

hopefully not 44, 43 is what i’ve heard but this test seems harder than the one that were described to me as 43
