June 2008- Math Level 2

^^There are 50 questions.

btw, if no one else found out… the curve was likely 44/50

wow i was expecting 43/50 for sure. oh well.

Yeah, the curve was definitely 44/50, since my score was 10-20 points lower than I expected.

I got a 670. Disappointing, but I expected it after coming out of there. I took the exam cold turkey - I made straight As in pre-cal but definitely didn’t review or prep for this exam. I’ve already bought the Barron’s Math 2 prep book since I plan to retake this in October. Can that prep me well enough to boost my score to 750+?

i used barron’s. i really should have gotten an 800 after using it (790). it over prepares, but i think it will definitely help. put the programs in your calculator!!

My post from another topic on barrons.

I used barron’s and got an 800. You used Barron’s and got an 800. Maybe if somebody else uses Barron’s, he’ll get an 800.

My conclusion: Use Barron’s and get an 800

lets see … barrons, I got 730 practice, 770 1st test. I said screw the rest of the practice tests, ended with an 800.
I think barrons just… sucks in terms of mental preparation, it makes you nervous for the real test + not really confident.

I did TWO practice tests, and they werent timed either. Honestly, I probably just bought the book to make myself feel like I was doing something. barrons didn’t contribute that much imo.

I think my Honors pre-cal class was enough prep.

Lol, I used Barron’s.

I got an 800. :P

770 on Barron’s practice tests, but only 750 on the real thing. Disappointing.

Got 750s on the PR book but an 800 on the real thing :-)

For everybody bashing on barron’s, i must point out that the June Test was VERY much like any of the barron’s practice tests. You cannot be overprepared. you are either prepared or you are not prepared. knowing something from barron’s that does not appear on the test simply means that you studied well and are not relying on luck to get that 800. I took the june test and got an 800 by just omitting two questions. For one ? i did not know how to calculate standard deviation, and for the other my calculator decided it did not like to edit matrices. Those were my fault, not the book’s.

got an 800 with PR, o and i took both Math level 2 tests from the collegeboard books, ooo and i made literally 100 flash cards for the formulas and shtuff

Question: I got a 770 on the actual test: does anyone know if an 800 would look much better on apps, because I know I could get one if I prepared a little. I just don’t know if it’s worth retaking. (Engineering is my planned major).

I didn’t think the June test was as hard as Barron’s, but it got close. I remember having splitting headaches after the two Barron’s practice tests I took (got 740/760) but I felt the actual test was a breeze (800).

pattymac101190, I got a 780 my first time taking it and decided to retake it. Unless you’re absolutely sure you can get an 800, I wouldn’t retake it. I walked out pretty nervous after I retook it but I got an 800. But when I look back i realize that it wasn’t that smart of a decision and if we were to apply in the same year, colleges wouldn’t think any differently of your score compared to mine. Remember, anything over a 750 is always great.
But whatever your decision, best of luck!

I got a 650 and I’m not sure if I should retake it. I used Barron’s to study, and I did really well in calculus this year, so I was thought I would do better. Is 650 a bad score is I want to go to a top school???

is a 750 good enough for caltech/MIT-like schools?

I got like a 650 on PR practice tests and a 780 on the real thing. PR is good for math II.

I prepped with Barrons, PR (only took one untimed practice test from it, was hard on couple questions), and two CB tests. (and found out the 2nd test is so useless because it’s from 1995 and the big CB subject book has the same math iic test as the CB math one.)

Here’s my barron results: 710, 720, 740, 750, 710, 750, 760

800 on the real thing.

I would just say that barron’s tests have some problems that require SO MANY steps that you would never see them on the real test. But it did give me confidence because i didn’t know/forgot everything about matrix, probability, abs and int. how to do determinate on an 84 from Barrons (I have no idea what det is but i know how to get it on the calc :P)! And i also learned exactly how to do each problem on Barron’s tests the fastest way possible. I did have good grades in my pre-calc class, but i felt my school prepped me well.

I say the June test was pretty hard, especially on the perfect square question , i’ve never seen that before. But IMO it was still easier than a barron’s test.

so my point is Barron’s is good. But do watch out for typos, there’s SO MUCH of them in the book.
