June 2009 - Mathematics Level 2

hey ricky - don’t sweat it. it was an extremely easy question so you didnt have to think about it much which is probably why u dont remember it

A standard boxplot consists of 4 quartiles and a median.

The line in the middle represents the median. The boxes on each side represent the range of 25% of the group. The lines that go out from the boxes represent the ranges of the bottom and top 25 percent respectively.

The answer was 2x larger for the one one about (x,y) (2x,2y)?

yes slope = 1!!!

NOW two questions!!!

1) The boxplot one that asked for “what percentage of students scored between 70 and 90??”

That went felt too easy, but I always jump to some conclusion.

The 70 “left end” of the box had 68.5% or something, and the 90 “right end” of the box had 89.5% or something.

DO WE SUBTRACT THE TWO VALUES?

and

2) What was the answer to the graph question where there were two graphs, and it says that f(x) (represented by the left graph) is equal to g(x) (represented by the right graph) when its -2 < x < 2.

and it asks for, “what may be the equation of g(x)?” (the right graph)

some of the options were like…

g (x) = - |x| or something… and g (x) = 2 (f(x) - something)…

who knows what I’m talking about/remembered what they put??

^ya

use (0,3) and (0,6)

aite thanks coolguy

there was only one equation with slope of 1 anyways, so yea

Prince AI, (point 2,-3) Intercept at 5

“y= x + something”

(“something = 5”)

Too bad when you plug in 2 for X you get 7. That’s not correct haha.

question mark – yes the distance of (2x, 2y) is 2d. At least I hope it is…

ANYWAYS,

for the box plot…

the answer was 50%??? The 70 - 90 was on the edge of the boxplot!!! Buut wasn’t it misleading, because I thought it had the percentages right on top!

And when I subtracted the percent (I guess this would mean its percentile) on top of 70, and 90, I got something that’s not 50 O=.

Gulpppp what did everyone else put???

Box and Whisker plot was 50%.

I guessed 75%.

here is a compilation of what i got…sorry if i repeated anyones, i only read the first 20 pages

BOX AND WHISKER PLOT : 50 percent
—the definition of a box and whisker plot, is 4 quartiles. inside the box is 25-75 percent of the people, therefore its 50
prisms sides : 15 sides
—easy just add it up
triangle, 2 new triangles each time : 201
—use arithmetic sequences
abs(tan(x))) : pi/2
—just graph it on your calculator and look at the values
standard deviation : D, choice (8,10,10,10,12)
—if you don’t know the formula/concept, an easy way to think about this is how little the data deviates (changes) from each other
seniors juniors : 840 or 820
—just use combinations and multipy, i believe it was 6C2 and 8C3
counterexample : 15
—just plug in and check to see if it satisfies
exponential regression : 24
triangle with sides 3,4,root37 : .866
—you can use trig, but i just looked at it cause i was running out of time, and guessed that theta was 120 degrees
height of tree : 54
— use trig
ratio of x to z : 2
—you have to solve x,y,z for each other and then it will cancel out to give you 2
f(x+3) : e^x
number 50 complex numbers : -1-2i
movie : n= x/(.6d)
paint : 798 REMEMBER TO SUBTRACT FLOOR
other random answers i remember getting
1/x

after looking through the forum, i realize that the answer to graph is -f(-x)…i put f(-x), can someone explain??

also for all those inquiring about the curve, a raw score of 44 to 45 is usually an 800. however, sometimes it is easier, sometimes it is harder, so the full range is around 42-48. stop moaning and just wait, we are all in the same boat

The answer was 50%??? The 70 - 90 was on the edge of the boxplot!!!

Dude, the interquartile range has absolutely nothing to do with percent of people in a certain category.

The box LITERALLY marks 25% of people in each direction - this is by direct definition of a boxplot and you had to know this before taking the test. I wouldn’t have remember if it weren’t for AP stat 2 years ago.

gaah, the box and whisker plot… what were the values on top of the box ???

I remember subtracting the number on top of the right end of the box (above 90) by the number on top of the left end of the box (above the other value they asked for, 70?) and got something like 21%…

SIIIIGH

lol it’s one of those things that i know now, sighhh.

does anyone remember which one that was

and do you guys remember the dimensions for teh painted room?

I remember 798 for the room

528?? Do you remember the question at all?

yeah what were the dimensions for the room?

@thequestionmark: I corrected myself afterwards within a few minutes, and I solved the entire problem, thank you very much for pointing that out, captain obvious.

@frzfire129

pretty sure it was 798 or something like that.

@frzfire: H=8, W=15, L=18

damn it i might have forgotten to add the ceiling, was that an answer choice?

like was 528 an answer choice?
