June 2009 - Mathematics Level 2

Well, when you use the ExpReg L1, L2 button on your calc, the answer turns out as 24, and then you get 21 if you do it by hand that way or whatever. so i have no idea what’s right. :)

alright thanks

how do you use that expreg thing?

Ok look, if you use that method and plug in 1520 ( which by the way is not the correct number because i said that it wasn’t correct), you would actually come up with 25 GENIUS!!, if you knew how to round.

and wait for the f(x+3)=f(x) x f(3), you agree the choice is e^x? I thought you disagreed wit it? Cuz i put it is e^x or e^x+3, whichever it was.

So the answer is 21…

does anyone remember if logx was a choice for that one? or what letter choice e^x was?

so far im at 3 omit and 3 wrong… not liking it

No wait, if you use 1520, it’s 24.11, my bad. But i don’t think the numba is 1520…i think its a lil diff.

yes, the right answer was e^x, haha.

1520 = 400*b^10

3.8 = b^10

b = 1.142821388

10,000 = 400 * (1.142821388)^x

(1.142821388)^x = 25

log(25)/log(1.142821388) = 24.111

OR

850 = 400*b^5

2.125 = b^5

b = 1.162711

10,000 = 400 * (1.162711)^x

(1.162711)^x = 25

log(25)/log(1.162711) = 21.352

Your explanation looks correct but LIKE SAID, THREE TIMES BEFOE, IM NOT SURE IF THE NUMBER WAS 1520!%@

i understand that, fresh101. im just using it for now because the college board cant make a math question where different methods of solving the problem yield different answers. i know i am wrong somewhere, i’m waiting for someone to tell me where…

I still think itz 21…who said it’s 24?

^Um… idk, everyone?

no need to do this crazy number stuff… Just input the numbers into your calculator and use the ExpReg function to find a and b. Enter the function into y= and look at the chart. It’s 24.

idk wht the answer is then…i’m only a sophmore…i was never taught exponential regression formally so im just using the stuff i know myself

Wait! whoever has their blue book with them. turn to page 115. Exp. regression is mentioned there…and see if that helps.

So the answer is 24…because a is not 400 but 475…so i guess, you have to base the answer on the calc…thatz all i can say, according to that blue book, i guess.

Actually, I was never taught exponential regressions either. I learned it going over problems on the car ride to the test center.

2 wrong so far, not sure about 2 more

What grade are you in “I took the SAT”?
And what are you whining about? 2 wrong is still an 800 and even 4 wrong is an 800.

I already have 3 skipped and actually i think i have 1 wrong but im saying 2 wrong becuase i don wanna sound too cocky, for a sophmore at least. Do you think a 790 for a sophmore is good? What impression will it make on Yale, considering my other stuff is in good shape.?

junior
and i just don’t want there to be the slightest chance of no 800.

and i really have no idea, but a 790 is good for anyone. i doubt Yale would take into great consideration that someone got 790 instead of 800 in one of the required subject tests.

It’s okay i took the sat. I failed it. As in low 700s, and I was totally prepared too, so I’m not sure what happened. Maybe it was the fact that every time I’m taking an important test, an annoying song is stuck in my head combined with how slowly I worked through the first 25 problems. Either way, my score sucks, so don’t complain. I’m going to have to retake this thing as a freaking senior.

fresh your a sophomore?.. I assume your asian then
