I put “restricted people from reading books not considered worthy of acclaim”

Wait for the shirk question…wat were the other choices/question?

Can anyone re-create the question about the literary standards? I’m curious as to why some people chose “restricted people from reading books not worthy of acclaim”, but I’d like to see the question so I can process why I (and others) put what we did…

yes, it was “restricted people from reading books not worthy of acclaim” because the question asked something about a word and what it meant in that context (i think…or something like that!)

umm i dont think it was shirk?

i believe it hd welcome in the answer…like intimidated…welcome

but it defi. was not shirk.

the sentence was
instead of being _____ at her role model status, she instead _____ the opportunity to teach young people

shirk…welcome was NOT an answer choice.

Also was it humor or accuaracy? last debate? for the minivan person.

btw Bee posted the exact pasage on page 41. searching the book, the reviews say alistar is a scientist and the book is very humorous.

options for first word might have been neglectful or rejecting
options for the 2nd word might have been embraced or welcomed

for humor or accuracy, are you referring to the questions she asks? If so, I thought we had come to the consensus that it was referring to the accuracy (or lack thereof) of her memories.

BTW: I did think that shirk was in the wrong answer choice.

123cricket-

Yes, you are absolutely, without a doubt, correct regarding the shirk sentence.

Yea i know we came to a consensus.

But then I discovered your link to the exact passage. Reading it again, I dont see why she would question her accuracy. I know she says “am i embellishing” it so it could be a straightforward answer, but it could also be a trick question.

Remember, the entire tone of that passage was humorous…from the minivan and fate part to the end.

The thing I dont get is that its a narrative. Why would she randomly blurt out questioning her accuracy? Shes not even talking to herself, shes just talking randomly…it may not be humorus to us, but her intent by be humor.

More importantly, I read a review of the book, and it said that “everything that she told is her opinion of the events that happened”…so by that, I dont think she would ever question herself.

I could be totally wrong though (probalby am, i only get about 700s on reading, which is far worse than many people here). But that is my opinion.

I think weve covered 60 questions out of the 67…i think we should just wait and see what we get in 2 weeks.

hmmm cricket, you know i never thought of that. i’d have to read it again i guess.

EDIT: cricket, I don’t think it is humorous, reading back. To be honest, I don’t see any humor in her tone there. She really, genuinely wonders if she is “embellishing.” She says she “isn’t sure,” so why would she say that if she was joking? Moreover, saying that she is being humorous is just way too big of an inference. We can’t know for certain and I think that one of the biggest mistakes a person can make on the CR section is overthinking because of all the ridiculous choices CB puts out for each question. It just seems to be that the straight-up, not overthought answer is the one about her questioning the accuracy of her beliefs.

actually reading that again, accuracy might be right…

its just weird…she goes from minivan —> Aliastar…

Like was there another answer chioce? Thats like introduce an important concept in her life? Its weird passage.

Also aliastar=def scientific. What this passage failed to mention was that ALiastar was a famous geneticist.

ALso, the Captital letters was the choice with poke fun…for sure. Reading it over again, she describes two general things first, free will and progress, then she labels them with capital letters to poke fun at them, kinda like an advertisment.

^whoa what hapepend to my post…

we should just call it a day and good luck with everyones scores in 2 weeks.

instead of being _____ at her role model status, she instead _____ the opportunity to teach young people

first blank: shirk
second blank: seize

whaaa?
i thought there was another choice that worked

it was like (intimidated or something along that lines)…welcomed

i think cricket is right here…

shirk doesnt really fit well. shirk is more of a verb… to avoid

Yea im pretty sure shirk (and it was shirked in this case) was in the second blank.

CB never gives adjective/verb probelms and i kind of do remember shirked being in the second blank not the first.

Ya i remember putting the answer the 1232cricket said

so is it reject/welcome or shirk/seize?

i remember putting what rtgrove and cricket put

ok good… uggh i’m so frustrated cuz i did so well on the reading part, but i got like 5 wrong on the SC this time when i normally get like 1 or 2 wrong :(
