June 2009 SAT Critical Reading

So what were the experimental readings if any of you guys remember? I had one, but I can’t seem to remember what it was, and the other topic didn’t say what it was. I’m sorry if this was said before, I just don’t wish to go through over 50 pages of replies… Thanks!

so are you saying there was no SC that had shirk as the right answer?

I’m seriously doubting poking fun at is the right answer

“Go As We Pleased” ----“Travel in The Modern Way”

Incompatible b/c Travel In OUR WAY does not comply with Modern Way.

OUR WAY can be anything: buggy, horse back, wagon, tec.

The modern Way can only be the RV

Thats why I thought it was incompatible

BTW the paragraph w/ narrator saying Alistair’s book title was NOT on the SAT

i think that’s reading too much into it

*Note: It probably wasn’t on the SAT because that would totally give away the answer that Alistair was “scientifically inclined.”

hey, i really don’t see how its poking fun at anything. Besides im really sure the question was in the context of that particular LINE.

btw, i thought this was much more clearer than the “poking fun at” answer, but we’ll see : )

…it was shirk.

yes, that’s why hypothetically philosophical can be right, if there were specific lines that the question asked you to go to. Probably not, though.

There’s no reason why it ISN’T compatible, however. Moreover, the way she presents them, as slogans, after already depicting them once as specific concepts means she’s poking fun at those concepts.

Its poking fun at. These slogans were probably advertisements she remembered at the time and she’s gently making fun at it by making the reference to it. Kind of reminds me the SNL skit with Chris Farley as Matt Foley haha. That’s what i thought of when read those lines in that passage.

“the Knowsley Clubman allied the power of progress with the concept of free will”

hmmm, i dunno… I guess i did worse than i thought on the CR ekk. : (

IF this was a hard question, then maybe I am right? IF it was easy and not meant to be dwelled on, i guess i’ll be wrong. : /

can someone compile a list of answers?
BTW, was it endearing or impassioned?

so it’s shirk? agggh why did i suck at this time’s SCs??? and the vocab wasn’t even hard uggh

it was impassioned and i compiled a list some 10 pages ago. (although some stuff is missing-- it’s about 50 questions)

really, impassioned? i thought impassioned dealt with an individual. The SC was for a group of people so endearing made more sense.
Endearing means to pass on fervent feelings from one person to another whereas impassioned stays within an individual. At least thats how i thought of it. I felt impassioned was a trap, especially since it was one of the last SC’s ( so it was probably hard)

it’s hard to remember all the combinations and it wasn’t the word “shirk” that I remember being wrong - it was the word that it was paired with. But maybe I did choose “shirk” or something: I truly do not remember. There were just so many words! lol

Lol I do remember and it wasnt shirk it was like negliect and promote or something along those lines

Esplin- impassioned was absolutely, without a doubt the correct answer…at least in my opinion = D

oh yeah and does anyone remember these answer choices???

Empathy???
negligent, essential???
summation/complement???

cuz i have no clue as to which questions they are referring to… if they are for SCs i’m going to have a fit.

It was an “impassioned speech.” I doubt an “endearing” speech would motivate action–an impassioned speech might move people to tears, but not necessarily action.

yeah smarts1, those were all SCs and I believe those were the right answers for them

does anyone remember a SC about an extensive Native American work and the answer choices were like “survey, synopsis, outline”, or was that in my experimental section?

^ Exp. indeed, sir

oh wow that one was exp? ^

that was like one of the only questions i omitted, do you know what the right answer was op?
