June 2010: Biology

Doh! I just remembered the answer I put for that rose variation question. I didn’t actually put human selection. I put mutation- I am almost certain of this answer. Both self pollination and human selection contribute vastly to variation. Mutations that remain in the gene pool and propogate enough to contribute to variety happens so rarely that it is not even comparable to the effects of the other two. Hope this helps!

hmm…but crustaceans are primarily known for having cephalothoraxes…as high school students thats usually as far as we should know, we shudnt need to differentiate the diff’t parts of a cephalothorax… i dont think college board would go that far as to trick like that, I mean it doesnt say in any SAT 2 prep book i’ve ever read that crustaceans have a head, OR that they have 4 antennae (if that was the question), but maybe it does in a college text book or wikipedia… the question should be thrown in my opinion

I see what you are saying but I think the trick was overlooking the word “pairs.”

And also, we didn’t have to know that a crayfish had 4 antennae. We only needed to know that insects have two to figure that question out.

:/ eh whatever…

is this your first time taking?

Wait did the question say “two pairs” or “2” antennae?

i think it said 2, but i guess it sed 2 pairs…

lol i just reread my last 2 posts and i’m sorry i sounded like an a$$. yes, this is the first time i’m taking the bio test, though i’ve taken 5 other subject tests and the sat i already.

so what were the answers?

14 days boys!!! xD

argh, I really am dying to know what I made. SAT scores come before AP scores xD

I want to know my score soooooo badly. I can’t even function during the day. I omitted two questions, and, so far, I know that I already got two wrong. I probably got 6-12 wrong maybe (I’m adding plenty of leeway in my estimate). Let’s say that I got 12 wrong. Since 2 were omitted, my raw score would be 75. What would the score be? Anyone have any ideas?

mm, your raw score would be lower than 75. Because if you missed 12 and 2 were omitted, that would be 14 questions you didn’t get a point for. And then it would be minus 3 more since it’s 1/4 point off for each of the 12 wrong. Raw score = 63. Not sure what that would correlate to the weighted score.

But try not to worry about it too much now… it’s over with, and you might have done better than you thought.

Any consolidated list?

Can any of you recommend a review book that was useful to you? I’ve heard Barrons + PR is supposed to be good.
I’ve taken honors bio but it was over two years ago so I dont fully remember it all.
Plus I never totally understood it in the first place thanks to a poop teacher.
I’ve also taken AP Environmental science, is there anything on this test that relates to that?

I’m really hoping for a 700+… I’m hoping for a lenient curve.

^same here! :(

lol if i got a 700+ i will be happy… really hope i hit that mark.

^same here. I’m not going to bother retaking if I get 700+

If I get above a 700 a true miracle will have taken place.

I screwed up that ENTIRE test.

I think I got a 620 or something. I’m not re-taking at all so it doesn’t really matter.

I’m going to do some SERIOUS prep for Math II and Physics over the summerrrr!
