June 2010 Writing

so did we confirm that like number 8 or 9 in the real improving sentences was A? the one about the black guy going into politics, and that “he had planned on” instead of changing it to “he had been planning”

nvrmind, it is A bc it stays in the past perfect. .had been would be present perfect

Which one was the experimental one? Was it the one with stonehenge sentence error ? Or not? Section 3 or 6?

Stonehenge was not experimental, I remember it and I had a math experimental.

ARGHHH my writing was HORRIBLE!

sorry guys. I need a confirmation. Did you guys have the passage about braces (about a girl who has to wear braces and then compares herself to Tom Cruise) in one Writing section?

^ I didn’t even get that passage an I had an experimental passage. So, yes that Tom Cruise passage was experimental

Thanks but are you American? I’m international and I have two 25min writing sections. One includes that Tom Cruise braces and the other includes a passage about Williams sisters. Someone said that you American guys have the same writing section. Can anyone confirm that?

apparently we americans didn’t have the same test

so no braces and no Willams sisters? Thanks.

So… any consensus on the “intent about” question?

Guys, I remember a sentence that was roughly like this one:

The works of Estonian author James Jarka were not written in his native language.

I said “his native” was wrong since “his” has no antecedent. The phrase “of Estonian author James Jarka” is a prepositional (adjective) phrase so I thought it was not a proper antecedent. What do you guys think?

^ I vaguely recall marking that one part of that sentence was wrong. I’m not sure of the exact wording anymore, though.

^ i remember that one, but the error was not an ambiguous pronoun… simo, i think the consensus is that “intent about” was an error

anybody remember the improving sentence one along the lines of “Before he went into politics, so and so had planned on” … i debated whether to keep it the same or change “had planned on” to “had been planning on”

Anyone remember a question that said something like “were they…, the workers would’ve put off the strike”.

I believe this was question 11 of the 25 minute section.

The wording was:

The works of estonian author james jarka, which were written in prussian and some other language, were not written in his native language of estonian.

error or no error?

^ was that a rewording sentence?

if i filled up all but 2 and a half lines, and wrote an introduction paragraph, and 3 detail/support paragraphs, with just a concluding sentence (not a concluding paragraph), what score can i anticipate for my essay? I also included two or three examples. One was about debates, one about college admission officers looking for variety, and i can’t remember if i had a 3rd example.

I don’t remember the estonian author one-- was it experimental?

It wasn’t experimental (I had 4 CR sections). It also wasn’t a rewording one.
