June 2012 SAT II Biology

Hey in the E section there was something about specialization or something int he embryo. I believe the answers were like gastrulation and some other stuff. Was the answer gastrulation?

Why was chlorophyll wrong? Can you explain further? thanks

@jimjim1717 I don’t really remember the question. What did the chlorophyll choice say exactly? All I remember is there was a plant that exclusively used green light. So, it wouldn’t be able to photosynthesize this light. Therefore, the photosynthetic byproduct of oxygen would not be produced and the bacteria wouldn’t seek the plant. What did the choice with chlorophyll say?

Previous list with EDITS

1.Aorta = pumps blood throughout body
2. Right ventricle = sends blood to lungs
3. Arithmetic diff b/n energy produced by producers and energy taken up by producers + consumers = net community production
4. Very first column was answer to a question… I think the one w/ the most net primary production (it asked what had the most energy after accounting for respiration I believe)
5. Energy produced unhindered by cellular resp = gross primary production
- I thought the question asked for energy produced AFTER accounting for cellular respiration
6. Two areas w/ no net community production = the ones w/ 0 on the bottom row, or the two columns that were on the right. (Tropical rain forest and chapparal or something?)
7. Some question that had to do w/ the 4 above.

@Lanayru add the one with gastrulation as specialization of tissues

and I remember these are the parts of that biome question

 1. The first column (I think it had something to do with alfalfa) as the answer for most productive
 2. Net community
 3. 9,200 (some difference between two parts) … it was another one that had to do with net community
 4. The zeroes at the bottom
 5. Was there a fifth question? i cant remember

@jimjim1717 Plants that live in places where light is not good enough for them tend to have MORE chlorophyll so they can get more photons to make up for the fact that they are on the wrong wavelength

Previous list with EVEN MORE EDITS
question = answer

sends blood throughout body = aorta

pumps blood to lungs = right ventricle

Arithmetic diff b/n energy produced by producers and energy taken up by producers + consumers = net community production

most net primary production (it asked what had the most energy after accounting for respiration I believe) = alfalfa field (the biome in the first column)

energy produced AFTER accounting for cellular respiration = net primary production

Two areas w/ no net community production = the ones w/ 0 on the bottom row, or the two columns that were on the right. (Tropical rain forest and chapparal or something?)

Difference between one row and another row (net primary prod - heterotroph respiration?)

When specialization of tissue occurs during development = gastrulation

spleen does what? = filters out ethryocytes in blood

@kili though it’s M specific, I’d argue that a plant that lives where the light spectrum is not optimum for their pigments would change their pigment profiles. they wouldn’t necessarily get more chlorophyll (unless the spectrum is super optimum or something)

Didnt the question ask for the energy left over after respiration of producers and organisms at the first tropic level (or something like that)? So the answer would be like net community productivity?

@Lanayru First of all, plants that live in those spectrums kind of die xD
But if you were to put a normal plant in the benthic portion of a lake, what would happen is an increase in chlorophyll in order to get more photons, they don’t change their pigments because they can’t

OK I got this for the biomes:
First question - alfalfa field
Second Question- It asked for a specific number which was 9200
Third Q- Net community production is the amount of energy that goes through producers and consumers
Fourth Q- This one had “difference” in the question. It is ALSO (Highlight on the ALSO)net community production
Fifth Q- Zeroes on the bottom

wasn’t that it was net primary production? “community” wasn’t in any of the phrases. :o

@kili icic :)

@Lanayru
Are you sure there were five questions for the bimoes thing?

When do we get the test scores?
I’m super-impacient so…

does anyone remember whether there was a math or number-related question for the biomes questions in E

^the one with community productivity or something

June 21st at 5:00 AM EST

But 2:00 AM for PST! :D

I hope this hasn’t been asked but the question about Global Warming was it CFCs or greenhouse gases? I remember reading it and I’m pretty sure that the cause and effect was wrong for the one about greenhouse gases. Also, i googled CFCs and it said that ozone depletion can cause global warming. Could someone please answer this question–it’s been bugging me a lot.

Pretty sure the cause and effect were wrong as well. Anybody else care to help?
