***JUNE 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

@nimbooda14 That’s definitely possible! I’m also a rising senior (who has taken lots of honors and APs like you) and I only prepped a little the day before the ACT (bad idea I know considering this was my first time) but I ended up with a surprising 34C on this test! Also, I don’t think you need to brush up on some hard math — just get yourself familiar with the types of problems that the ACT gives out by taking a lot of practice tests. And as for time, just always keep in mind to skip any super time consuming questions and come back to those so that you at least get the easy ones out of the way. And again, get yourself familiar with the types of questions and the wording of the questions in the ACT. It will make the test go by a lot faster in my opinion.

@ornate thank you so much! and congrats on your 34! i really do believe that with lots of practice especially with timing i can really pull off a 33/34…my biggest problem is speed, which is why i struggle with standardized tests a lot of times…but i will take the tip @Falcon1 gave me to put my timer to max time - 5 and practice that way…thank you both !

If you belong to a local library, look at their Online Resources or ask them if they have patron access to the Learning Express Library. You can take online, timed tests with a score at the end. You can study for the ACT, SAT, AP exams, PSAT and other areas.

It’s odd, but I got my scores today. I am not sure why they put mine up today instead of tomorrow.
E: 34
M: 33
R: 29
S: 27
W: 9
C: 31

Would I have a chance of getting into Carnegie Mellon’s College of Computer Science with these scores? I also got a 730 on sat subject test physics and 800 on sat subject test Math 2.

GUYS I’M SO HAPPY

34C
35E
35M
29R

lol dat reading tho

This score is exactly what I wanted, but when I superscore this test with the one I took in February, my Composite comes out to be a 34.25. Should I retake and aim for that 35? I’m applying to MIT, Princeton, Cornell, UCBerkeley, Duke, Rice, and Georgia Tech.

@hyjmc8 Great job! Don’t waste money trying to retake, a 34 is amazing!

I’m still registered! I almost forgot to check this morning because it’s been so long…

@Qwerty568 I’m still registered as well :-<

PRETTY SATISFIED
33 comp
35 english
35 math
34 reading
26 science (lol)

april act:
32 comp
30 english
36 math
32 reading
30 science

34 superscored (for BC)

Im stilling waiting for my scores!!! All my other friends and classmates have received their scores except for me!!!

:(( do you know what’s wrong??? Does this mean I’ve received a bad score? I’m super anxious

My ACTs finally came back!

33 composite
35 on both English sections
31 on science
30 on math
10 on writing

It’s my first time taking them, so I’m happy!

Great Job @Qwerty568 !

Still no score! D really needs to know if she got her math score up a point or two and maybe added a point or two to her composite. She was also trying to improve her SAT math on the June test and her score went down, so that only adds to the anxiety. Her April reading/english scores were 31 and 29, but math was only 23, so that’s limiting her current college list.

I guess she should stop driving herself crazy and just check back on August 7, which happens to be the last day to register for the September test (so the testing locations will be full). Sigh. ACT should not charge everyone the same amount if some kids results in 10 days and some have to wait 6 or 7 weeks.

Does anyone know about the changes to the new September 2015 ACT? Will English, Math, and Science stay the same? Will Reading comprise of all dual passages? Does anyone have sample essays for the new essay prompt?

I am a rising senior and I am looking to apply to small, private colleges such as Layfayette, Champlain and Denison. I was wondering if my scores will get me in along with some scholarship money.

31 Composite
35: Reading
32: Science
28: English
27: Math

36 composite

35,35,36,36

Yay a pseudo 36 (35.5)

Anyone still waiting for their June ACT scores or am I the only lucky one?

Finally!
C 35

E 35
M 36
R 36
S 34

So i took the June ACT and got a 33(33.25 average)
English:34
Math:35
Reading: 36
Science:28

Do you think I should take it again? The ACT awarded me a free test because my last one had a bad proctor but I really don’t want to take it again. This was my second time taking it. I have a superscore of 34.

English: 35
Math: 35
Reading: 36
Science: 31

My parents really wan’t me to work on science and get a 34 and try and get a 36 superscore but I don’t think I can do it honestly. Thoughts on what I should do? Also I have a 3.6 GPA and i’m editor in chief of my school newspaper and have my own non profit that has raised over 40k in 3 years if that helps at all to show you that I’m fine or need to improve my application. There are ppl more qualified than me who don’t get in where they want so I’m nervous

^^ Very few college superscore the ACT and even the ones that say they’ll look at the highest subsection usually don’t recalculate the composite. Also, getting a 34 in Science would mean you would have to also raise your English and Math scores to a 36 in order to get the superscore of 36 that you seek. Is that realistically possible?

That being said, I do believe that the science section is the easiest to see score improvement because it really only involves interpreting charts, tables and graphs and requires very little actual science knowledge. With practice it gets easier and easier.

I don’t know what schools your are aiming for but a 33 should be sufficient for most good schools. If your are thiniking about the very top schools, your GPA will be the biggest obstacle to overcome, not your ACT score. My advice would be to not retake but instead work on having an amazing start to senior year. Good luck!
