How harsh was the reading curve?
1 wrong was a 34
Okay I feel like… Yaknow… Really angry and upset. I have been getting 34/35’s on all my practice tests… And now…
I got a 30C, with a 33E, 25M!!!, 34R, and a 28S. I’m especially angry about the Science one… I thought it went wel but apparently not.
The math one I also fluked. I’ll be retaking it for certain in september.
It was my first time taking it though and I didn’t prep to much… So maybe next time.
Looks like missing one question drops you to a 34
@JKMSNJ in my experience (30 in 7th grade, 36 today) the best way to improve reading/writing is to keep … reading and writing. Reading about things that interested me made rules and meanings intuitive. I wouldn’t worry about too much test-specific prep with so much time.
C 26 (+1)
R 30 (+3)
M 25 (+3)
E 25 (-1)
S24 (-1)
I knew I should’ve studied more
guess I have to retake in September
I’m so happy!!
C: 35
E: 36
M: 34
R: 36
S: 34
Usually I do very well on math, but I don’t care. I have an 800 on the sat math 2 so whatever.

@pinapplesragon Congrats to your son on doing so well in only 8th grade! I did alot of reading about how to get english and reading scores up as DD also had troubles with this, especially critical reading. Everything I read told me to just allow the child to mature and encourage general reading and discussions about what was read, which is what we did. Dd’s E and R were both 36 this June at the end of 10th grade with no special prep except one practise test
Oops sorry this wasn’t directed to pinappledragon
@AllyssXx What grade are you in?
study tips for those planning to retake?
@“the schooliest”
End of junior/rising senior. So I don’t have that much time left to retake.
June
C-30
E-33
M-34
R-22 (I am awful)
S-31
Superscore (doesn’t matter because no one does)
C-33
E-33
M-34
R-30 (one lucky test. Other 3 20,20,22)
S-33
Glad I finally broke 30 but not satisfied yet. For some reason I cannot read. I have tried different methods but my comprehension isn’t there and I am a fairly smart student. The timing plus attention kills. Does anyone have advice for me? I want a 33 and I know it is attainable if my reading becomes even semi decent and I shift closer to perfect on the others.
I have the grades and profile for selective schools. Literally the only thing I am missing is the ACT.
I just finished my sophomore year of high school. This is my first time taking a real ACT, although I was required to take the practice 2016 ACT by my school in standardized testing conditions. I prepped very little (about a week) with a few practice tests. I didn’t take the writing. Can anybody tell me if these scores are good or bad?

Uggghhh i got the same exact score as April. My superscore is 1 point higher. Guess i have to retake next year…
@AllyssXx Are you allowed to take the ACT after graduation?
@“the schooliest”
I have to apply at the same time as everyone else, so basically before the RD deadline. Taking the ACT after graduating wont be of much use xD
Does any plan to take the act for a fourth time or know people that have. I’m going into my senior year and my highest composite is 31 and super score is 32 but no one really super scores. Anyone taken it four times? I’m really trying for a 32.
@CollegeCraze72 Try skimming through the questions before reading the passage. Both of my kids swear that is the key to it. They have 36 and 34 respectively in Reading. Also you should read a lot outside of class.
Improved from a 30 last test composite to a 34 composite this june!
For the first one I spent a good amount of time preparing (a bit less than a month) with a couple tutor classes and got a 30. Second time I only studied for 1 week by myself and around half a practice test a day (2 sections) and improved by 4 points. My reccomendation for those retaking is that you take as many TIMED practice tests as you can and review any errors you make. Get a good feel of the test so you feel completely comfortable test day and see what strategies work best for you.
First test (2 months ago):
30C
28E
34R
33M
26S
Second test:
34C
35E
32R
32M
36S (lol)
The sections that I practiced the most during that week with timed tests were obviously the ones I did worse on , and the difference between both tests say a lot about what practice tests can do or at least did for me (and I only did 1/2 per day for a week)
Practice tests I believe are the best you can do to prepare.
