Thanks, and @VandyAlum93 I think I’m going to try pre reading the questions now
How did you guys prep? Any suggestions? I’m going to start prepping for the September exam soon…
@kaitefoxfire I’m gonna start prepping for that exam too. It seems to me the best way is to take as many timed practice tests as possible and to understand why you missed each question that you did. Best of luck!
I’m hoping that with a lot of prep I can increase my score from a 30 to a 31+ so I have a better shot at Northwestern. I think I can since I got the 30 without prepping. NU is my reach school but having a higher ACT will at least make my chances of getting accepted somewhat greater, I hope.
@AllyssXx I mean, you could wait to go to college for a few years xD
@ShadowDefuse I am trying to get my ACT from 32 to a 33 so I can be a better candidate at NU also! I live in IL so it’s instate if I get accepted it would be amazing.
I just finished my sophomore year of high school. This is my first time taking a real ACT, although I was required to take the practice 2016 ACT by my school in standardized testing conditions. I prepped very little (about a week) with a few practice tests. I didn’t take the writing. Can anybody tell me if these scores are good or bad? Thanks in advance!

Very good composite. Work a lot on your math and science they are holding you back.
@kassh4 What do you suggest in terms of prep? (I take it again next year. Plus, I have to take the PSAT/NMSQT net year, so I have to study for that, too.)
Science all you can really do is practice. Math just pay attention in class. I don’t really have any study tips for math because I haven’t/don’t plan on studying for it. Math is my thing I got a 35 on the June ACT and I made a silly mistake. I think if you pay attention in class you should be fine. Have you taken Algebra 2 yet?
Do you think it would be a waste of time to take Pre-Calc just for the September test so I can get the basic Trig? I have all my math credits and then some.
@kaitefoxfire …you don’t need pre-cal.
Purchase the ACT Online Prep and work your way through all the problems. There are hundreds and hundreds under each section.
My daughter did that specifically over the past few months and jumped up about 3 points in math.
I’m happy with my first ACT, I just finished freshman year and got a 28 C.
E: 32
M: 23 (haven’t taken Alg II and I suck at math anyways)
R: 30
S: 26
I was so stressed. Should I take it again at the end of Sophomore year or just wait until Junior year when everyone takes it?
@carachel2 Thank you for the tip!
@prospecti - I recommend taking September of next year if you can prepare in summer. That’s what my S did. he never took before though.
@prospecti I think you should just wait until December of Sophomore year and from then on take the ACT every chance you get. By December you should have a solid understanding of Algebra 2 and that should help so if you keep taking it by end of sophomore you should have or be close to your goal score.

I found that the science section was REMARKABLY easier the second time around. I genuinely did not study for the June ACT because I felt that I had a solid performance on the June SAT. For everyone who thinks science is their kryptonite, just go with your gut on all the questions and don’t get focused on the small details; that’s what I did and I was able to improve six points.
So a friend of mine (she was in the same testing room as I was) got her scores back Friday, however I did not. Does this mean there were issues with my test/scantron? Will I have to wait a long time to get my scores? Thanks
thanks for the tips. will have him read a lot this summer
@jacobs_nnd - ACT score reporting is random i.e. not everyone from same test center gets score on same day.

Is this score within IVY League Range??
Thanks!
