Junior chances

<p>Junior thinking of applying to liberal arts schools</p>

<p>GPA: 3.97 UW, school doesn’t weight</p>

<p>most rigorous courseload, will end up taking 10 APs out of 12 offered, can’t take AP in 9th, but have currently taken:</p>

<p>Freshman:
honors history 9th(can’t remember class name)
honors english 9
honors trig
(all the honors offered)</p>

<p>Sophomore:
AP euro
honors precalc
honors chem
honors english 10</p>

<p>Junior:
AP bio
AP chem
AP calc
AP USH
pre-AP eng</p>

<p>as a senior i will take AP psych, AP stat, AP gov, AP physics, and AP english</p>

<p>SAT: M:780 CR:700 W:690, plan on retaking in the fall</p>

<p>recs and essays will be good</p>

<p>EC’s: pretty much typical, but lacks leadership</p>

<p>hoping my GPA and an improved SAT will make up for EC’s</p>

<p>if you can do the following, you will be considered a much stronger candidate for hmc:

  1. get some math/science/engineering ECs going. maybe you can build something for yourself… it doesn’t need to be with an organization.
  2. study for the BC calc test and take the AP exam (and get a 5). calculus is a minimum requirement for freshman at hmc. because of that, most of the people admitted have taken at least BC calc.
  3. prove and project your passion. do this in real life and on your application through your essays, etc. one of mudd’s largest criterion is a “proven passion” for some type of math/science/engineering subjects.</p>

<p>right now, i would say your chances are 40%.
with some work, you can get them up to, say, 60%.</p>
