Alright, I’m in a pickle. I started my first semester at a junior college, and now I find that I am missing out on dorm life and such. I want to quit and go to a university as a freshman, start all over. Problem is, I’ve got about 3 months left in this semester and after that I’ll have units from a junior college on my transcript. My counselor says I cannot transfer with units to any of the UCs that I want to transfer to. What should I do?
Should I drop all of my classes right now with a W symbol so i dont get any credits? What will the W symbol do to me? Will it prevent me from going to the UCs and starting over as a freshman?

Anyone? I don’t have alot of time so it’d be cool if someone could at least tell me what dropping all classes with a “w” symbol will do to my chances of going to a university as a freshman and on financial aid!
Thanks in advance :)

Whether you drop your classes or not, you won’t be able to apply to any UC school as a freshman. As they say on their admission site
To answer another question, you can’t just “forget” about telling them; there is a national database that tracks enrollment in colleges, all the CA CC’s are in it, so you’ll easily be discovered and worse off at that point.

At this point you still have a few options, although they may not be ones that you like all that much. The first is to enroll at a CC in which a large number of students live away from home. These tend to be in/near college towns, such as SBCC with students living in Isla Vista right adjacent to UCSB. You could also look into CCs near Davis, Cal Poly SLO, etc. A second option is to apply as a transfer student before you are a junior. Most UCs have a policy against accepted such xfer students, but some such as Merced or Riverside may not. A 3rd option would be to finish out 2 years at your current CC and apply as a junior xfer to a UC. If you stay at a CC in any of the options above be sure to look into guaranteed xfer programs to UCs and other schools. A 4th option would be to look into the admission requirements at CSU schools; while many are commuter campuses, some are not.

Thank you for the reply! My counselor said that usually schools won’t care if you have dropped w classes on your record, and that you could start as a freshman! Does this sound accurate or is my counselor full of it? Specifically, I want to try for UC Berkeley so if anyone has information on this topic please share. :)
