As senior year is approaching as well as the college application process I am starting to consider my chances at certain universities.
My top choices for biology/pre-med are: NYU, Boston University, Bucknell, and Stony Brook University
My weighted GPA (out of 105): 96
SAT Score: 2100 (CR 690) (M 710) (W 700)
ACT: Not taken yet hoping for a 32/33
Extra Curriculars: Political Internship, FRC Robotics team, 2 years work experience, math/french honor society 1XX hours of community service.
I am only in 2 ap classes currently and plan to take 3/4 more next year and the SAT II for bio.
If I continue this path am I in decent shape? I also plan to do an internship at a hospital in the next few months. Thanks in advance for any replies.
How many AP classes did you take before this year, if any? And how many does your school offer? Right now the only problem may be with course rigor – 2 APs in junior year seems light unless scheduling conflicts made it impossible to take more. If you’ve really only got 2 APs under your belt at this point, I’d try to beef up on those a little more in senior year and do well your first semester, to show you can handle a rigorous workload. Other than that, your stats look like a match for NYU, BU, and SUNY Stony Brook (don’t know enough about Bucknell to say either way).
You look good! I would take more sat II subject tests if you’re not taking all of the APs that you could. Your ECs are great, but the more the better. Good luck!
I am taking 2 this year. And I could have taken more, but my academic performance and lack of pre reqs for the AP courses essentially made me ineligible. This year I am in AP US History and AP computer science. Next year I will probably be in AP Physics, AP Eco, AP Calc AB/BC (I’m not sure yet) and APES. Thank you for the feedback.
@BabylonBabylon
Thank you. What subject tests would you recommend? I have heard Math I is a waste of time but I am afraid my skills aren’t strong enough for math II. Also I am in regular chemistry but with self studying I think I can take the subject test. What do you think?
@collegebound1516
Dont do math I, it is considered a joke sometimes (not trying to offend anyone). Im more of a english/history person so not totally sure i can help you choose, but just know on math II i didn’t answer 30 questions (literally, I counted) and I still got a 610 (which isn’t great but impressive for not answering 30 i guess lol)
@collegebound1516 Oh wow. Okay I guess I’ll look into it. Thanks a lot for your help!
If you’ve taken through Trig (and done well), you shouldn’t have a problem with Math 2. I agree with @collegebound1516 in saying that Math 1 is too easy and most elite schools will want to see Math 2.
