Hello, I am a psychology B.S. major, art minor at a large Southern school looking to transfer. I originally went to this school for its engineering program, but then decided that both the major and the school were not for me. I have been heavily involved throughout the university in Greek life, student government, research (my research is currently under review for scientific publication), study abroad, and volunteering - I ended up dropping out of most of them after a year. I wanted to transfer after my freshman year because I was so unhappy, but my GPA was low (~2.6) for numerous reasons. I now have a 3.02 after 3 semesters at my current university (I took a medical withdrawal fall semester), have a 4.0 major GPA, and think that I would be in much better standing to transfer. However, I will have completed almost 80 credits by the time spring rolls around because of AP credit from high school and community college classes. All that said…what would my odds be for transferring to another university in the spring? If so, where would you suggest looking into?
Just because your first university gave you credit for the AP exams, does not mean that the place you transfer to will. Check the websites of your target institutions, and see which of your AP exams can be used for credit there. Also, both the CC credits and the coursework at the first university will be re-evaluated by the receiving institution, so it is quite possible that not all of your credits will transfer.
Since you have a new major, a good GPA in that major, and presumably can get good letters of recommendation from the professors in the classes where you got those good grades, you do have a decent chance of transferring. One place to start for ideas would be to ask your professors for their advice.
