Hi everyone, I’m A current junior and I’m very lucky to attend a college prep school in a large US City. At my school, we transfer in as juniors and earn our associates degree at the same time as we graduate high school. Most students take three to four college classes per semester, on top of our four high school classes. I’m in the lower bracket of my school’s stats, although we don’t rank so I’m not sure of my exact standing. My dream school is Barnard, and I plan on applying ED next year. If not Barnard, than any other HWC, Brown, or my state schools which are all good options. I’m afraid I won’t be able to get in to any of the schools I want to attend, or pay for them, especially after seeing all of the college acceptance reactions and threads posted on here, I just feel rather subpar. My stats are as followed
Weighted GPA- 3.7
Unweighted GPA (out of 6)- 4.9
APs- world (4), euro (4), human geo (5), lang (4), enviro (4), AS marine science (a*)
I’m currently taking- ap stats, lit, gov, macro, micro, and bio. the college classes I’m currently taking are biology, intro to inorganic and organic chemistry, physics, and chemistry lab.
SAT- 1250, I took it once after studying for months (this is with the march curve)
ACT- I haven’t taken it yet, but I’m scoring practices in the 30-33 range
Summer Programs- accepted at both Barnard and Brown
Race/Ethnicity- White European
income bracket- my parents are separated, they didn’t have the money for a divorce; combined- <125,000; custodial parent- <55,000
My custodial parent did not attend college, but my other parent received a professional degree. I will (hopefully) be the first woman on my custodial parent’s side of the family to attend a four year accredited university to completion
extracurriculars
girl scouts- I sit on the board of directors for my district (I am the only minor on the board) and I help make decisions, representing the scouts’ interests. I founded an organization that promotes first aid education in public schools and earned my gold award for it. I have worked at GS camp since I was 12, earning 100 hours for doing so each summer
Church- I co-founded an interfaith youth group freshman year that gives a space for people of various faiths a place to connect. I’ve been on two international service missions.
Rho Kappa- I founded the history honors society at my school and we work on community and political involvement in the local sphere (making sure people register to vote, holding fundraisers etc) as founder, I sit as president on the board.
Creating an organization- I’m in the process of founding an NPO dedicated to educating children on various topics that aren’t touched upon in school, or aren’t taught passionately in the classroom.
volunteering- I volunteer at a local hospital each week (about 6 hours after school), and I plan on volunteering at another over the summer.
also, I’m told I write pretty well so I think college
my prospective majors- biochemistry, microbiology, organic chemistry, epidemiology
minors- political science, history, geography, English, physics
I want to be a pediatric oncologist
Thank you everyone for reading this all the way through. I’m really struggling, as I don’t have a lot of time to improve my stats and I’d love any advice anyone has to offer. <3
