Junior Student looking with a 3.5 GPA looking for colleges in warm climate [NJ resident]

Just for the record, SDSU and USD may be both in San Diego, but are very different schools, both in size and in student life.

Secondary entry into Mizzou journalism is intense. 3.7+ GPA minimum during fresh/soph years.

Wow - the info on the website doesn’t make it sound that difficult:

Is it that some of the paths are more competitive than others? This piece makes it sound as if that’s the case. Info on specific thresholds is not easy to find.

I guess it makes sense though, that one of the top programs in the country (if not the world) wouldn’t be completely free of barriers-to-entry.

At any rate, OP has expressed zero interest in Mizzou despite mentions by three different commenters, so probably moot with respect to this thread, but it would be good to understand the nuances for the sake of future students.

Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while but I would like to update people. Here are the colleges I applied to and the results:

Syracuse (ED): I unfortunately was not admitted for 2025 but I was given an international pathway program for guaranteed transfer in 2026.
Ohio U: Admitted w merit/invitation to apply for honors (did but haven’t heard back)
Quinnipiac: Admitted w merit and 3+1 program
SDSU: Admitted
CU Boulder: Admitted
Ithaca: Admitted w merit
Miami of Ohio: Admitted w merit
Marist: Admitted w merit

Not sure where I will be going though!

Lots of great choices. Will you have a chance to visit any ? Are all affordable ?

You wanted to be in CA, correct ? So that bodes well for SDSU.

Great to have so many wonderful choices.

Congrats

Ps interesting you wanted a warm climate but only applied to one with? Has that changed ?

Perhaps the first screen is to check if the net price after FA and scholarships is affordable. Not affordable is effectively like rejection.

Are we voting?

I’m an Ohio University alum…so I hope you seriously consider the program there. It’s a good one! Great small college town. Lots of school spirit.

Congratulations on all of your admissions! And I suspect there was something that really impressed SDSU, as I thought it was a low probability admit for you. But you beat the odds, so congratulations!

Are these still your preferences, or have they changed over the course of the year (which is a very normal thing to have happen)?

Thanks! Honestly not really!!

So what are your preferences now?

And have you visited your top three choices? What’s your opinion??
