I’m generally a great student, but personal problems have led to poor grades in my junior year. I was curious if USF considered students based largely on their Junior year or on their overall GPA.

USF does look at notable grade trends, especially in your junior and senior years of high school–a downward trend isn’t good. If you have an acceptable excuse for the poor grades in your junior year, tell the admissions officers and ask for their advice. The best thing you can do is work hard at getting excellent grades in rigorous courses for your senior year, particularily the fall semester when USF is reviewing your application. Also make sure you take ACT and SAT tests asap if you haven’t already. Get your application in in August, maybe with the explanation about what happened your junior year grade-wise if you have a good story. Below is an admission matrix that may help you in selecting courses for your senior year–if you are scheduled to take weak classes already for next fall in high school, maybe change them to harder courses described in below matrix! Good luck.
