Junior year classes

Hi, I am choosing classes for 11th grade and would love some advice. For context, I took AP Precalc and AP CSP in 9th grade, and I am currently taking AP Calculus BC and APUSH in 10th grade. My intended junior year courses:

AP US Government
AP English Language
AP Statistics
AP Macroeconomics
Exploration in Data Science (taught by the AP Stats teacher)
Symphony Orchestra

I’m not too worried about the workload since I already dropped AP Chem – it didn’t align with my strengths or interests.

I hope to major in statistics and minor in finance at UMich (in-state), so I’m debating whether to dual enroll in Calc 3. My original plan was to take it in senior year, but I’ve heard that skipping a year of calculus isn’t ideal. However, I’m also struggling in Calc BC and will probably end this trimester with a B- or B.

What would be the best math classes to take in junior and senior year?

Also, if anyone has test-taking strategies for calculus, I would appreciate it! I tend to run out of time during tests and struggle to fully understand and apply concepts. Thank you!

That sounds like an issue to get with your teacher on.

You are taking an sdvanced class, advanced for 12th grade in 10th.

Maybe you’ll need to repeat it.

I agree it’s never good to take a year off.

Did your teachers direct you to BC vs AB ?

But you’ll have at least 3 lab science classes by the time you graduate?

Foreign language? Looks like Michigan requires 2 years but recommends 4 years of the same language.

Biology in 9th grade, Chem 1 and Physics 1 in 10th grade, and AP Physics C: Mechanics in 12th grade

Tested out of Latin 1, took Latin 2 in 9th grade, will take Latin 3 online this summer, and Latin 4 online in senior year

Major in Statistics | U-M LSA Department of Statistics says that you will need calculus 3 (multivariable calculus) and linear algebra as a statistics major. Each of these is normally a semester course in college.

Why do you want to major in stats? What are your career goals?

A few things about this…you will need DE MV either junior year or senior year (you can’t skip math senior year if you take AP stats junior year.) It might make sense to take it right after BC and not have a year gap. In the semester after MV, you can take linear algebra or some other advanced math.

Regarding BC…have you been talking with your teacher about concepts you might not fully grasp? Is is possible to get tutoring, either in or out of your HS?

I’m interested in working with data in the financial sector, so I’ll probably pursue a career in financial analytics. Statistics is applicable across many different fields, which gives me flexibility. I’m also considering attending law school.

Would it be better to take Calc 3 in junior year and wait until senior year for Linear Algebra, or should I take them back-to-back?

Since you’re struggling a bit in AP Calc BC, why not take Calc 2&3 at a college next year? At a solid college Calc 2 class would be faster paced and often more in depth than BC but would help you secure the concepts you aren’t mastering. Then on to Calculus 3, and Senior year Calc based Stats and Discrete Math.

Based on what else you shared (Latin online, 4 science classes) your schedule seems fine.
