junior year grades

If i had a weighted 4.0 both semester freshman year, a 4.5 and a 4.4 sophomore year, and currently a 4.3 as a junior taking an extremely rigorous schedule (3 B’s), will the admissions people frown highly on it?

thanks!

Those are all good grades. So I don’t expect you’ll get a frown from anyone :-)

To answer your underlying question of how do these grades compare to others applying to top schools, it’s not really possible to answer. Selective colleges compare grades among students of the same school – at least whenever they can. Grades vary widely from school to school. Some schools inflate them, while others do not. Some schools have a more rigorous/academic program than others. Some high schools are very selective, while others are not.

Selective colleges like to see applicants take the more/most rigorous courses that are offered in their school. It looks like you’ve done that. Your GC can provide you with better advise regarding young grade profile than anyone on this board. Your GC would know the grades of other students at your school who’ve been accepted (or not) to selective schools. Compare your grades to them.

Be careful about posting here at CC. The uber students can make a 3.5 GPA sound like your life must be in the toilet. Look at the schools that interest you. College Board has a “how do I match up” button and you can see exactly where you fit amongst the last freshman class.

There’s lots of things that can affect admissions. Chief among them are SAT scores and teacher reference letters. As important as your grades is the attitude you take to school. You don’t have to be a suck up but please, please, don’t show up with an attitude of boredom or entitlement and then expect a dazzling reference letter.
Good luck!
