Hey all. I’m a sophomore from Illinois and very interested in applying to Vanderbilt. With my stats, it’s a school that I will have a fun time getting rejected from, though I am applying into education (with legitimate intent and background). My parents are both Northwestern alum and NU’s September 4th, 2010 game is at Vanderbilt. That’s Labor Day weekend- perfect visiting time. My parents say I could go and visit/interview then, because there’s no way I’d go on any other break.

Is it worth it just a few days into my junior year? I will be barely 16. Will they take me? When do people usually interview, anyways?

Check their website to see what they say about interviews. Most only interview, if at all, juniors from May/June into senior year. However, I think it helps to see a few schools early so you can start to think about what your criteria even are. That can be hard just reading books. If you know anyone who goes there who could take you to lunch in the cafeteria or something that would really help. (or even a friend of a friend). Definitely sign in at the admissions office, at least, and go on the official tour because some schools keep track of who visited. And ask admissions before you visit what they recommend…whether there is anyone you can talk to etc.
