Junior year- should I work harder next year?

Next year’s classes:

ECs:

Virtually nothing important. A few clubs like NHS, plus about 200-250 hours volunteering in public library.

Am I on the right track to Stanford or should I try harder?

You are on the right track but given Stanford’s lack of predictability working harder is probably not a bad idea. SAT I could be a bit higher but the EC’s are really going to hurt. That weakness may also be reflected in your essays, which Stanford gives significant value to. Try to find something you’re interested in and run with it.

Next year I’ll go compete with FBLA, so I hope that’ll make up somewhat for the ECs.

Most Stanford admits will have a higher GPA and likely higher SATs. With few ECs and no stated hook, I’d say you’ve got some work to do.

I just got my ACT scores back, and the composite is 35. Is that likely to boost my chances?

Yes, that will help considerably. Given that Stanford ignores frosh year, you now have a 4.0, 35 ACT (~2340 SAT), and 2x800 SAT II. Those are essentially perfect stats. Find a way to make yourself interesting and you will have a very good shot.

Okay, some updates:

Math IIC: 760
Chemistry: 690

I’m also doing research (plant genetics) at Colorado State University for about 180-200 hours. I’m also taking some classes this summer as well as AP Psychology. Next year I’ll also start competing in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).

Should I be able to make it if I improve my SATs?

we can never guarantee or even predict with a reasonable degree of accuracy. you aren’t just a combo of your stats and activities!

your stats are good enough, but stats alone will not get you in.

hmm what kind of a question is that?

of course you should work harder next year… one should always work harder…

i kinda agree with firebird. work to your potential, whatever that is

woah, are you saying you haven taken 7 AP classes as a frosh and soph???

come on now, read more closely… he’s taken 7 APs through junior year, not just frosh and sophomore years…

and yes, I took more APs than he will have by the time he graduates

just sayin’ though, you should always strive to work your best…

o…

i only signed up in 3 AP classes for the next year…
its not my fault though, my school only offers 5 AP classes…
