Junior Year

How difficult is it to gain acceptance to boarding school for junior year as an international student (Will not be needing FA.) Yes, there are fewer spots, but not as many applicants.

bump…

You can get into a boarding school as a junior. You can get into a strong, life~changing boarding school as a junior. However, if you are only interested in the 7 most selective schools, it may not work out for you. at those schools, there are so many more kids trying to get in that the odds are terrible for anyone.

If you really want to go to school in the states, look off the beaten path. It is highly likely that there is a school out there where you would thrive and be a great addition to the school community. Try looking outside New England, at the schools in New Jersey or in the Washington DC area. Consider the South.

Of course, if you are a highly skilled, multi sport atlete, the road will be much, much easier.

At any rate, good luck!

That was exactly what I was thinking, therefore I have concluded that Loomis is probably a great fit for me. What would you say?

LC is a great school, but it is not what I would necessarily call off the beaten path.

Maybe my path is wrong, but if you really want to be assured that you will get in somewhere, you will need to apply to several schools, and at least one of them should be outside New England. I dont know what you are looking for in terms of Fit, but here are some co-ed, non New England schools to look at. (dont get me wrong, I love NE, but in this super competitive age, there are stellar schools outside of that region that have higher admit rates than weaker schools in that region. ]

Asheville School
Cranbrook
Culver Academy
Episcopal High Scool (outside Washington D.C.]
Millbrook School
Stevenson School

There are many, many, more, but you are looking for Fit and only you know what you need. Take what you like about LC and see who else comes close. I know that lots of kids scorn smaller schools on this board, but having taught at schools of all sizes, I think kids are missing out to dismiss smaller schools as inferior.

Im not saying you will never get in to LC. I dont know and cannot guess. But too many kids on this board spend a year hoping and dreaming about boarding school only to come away empty handed.

But to end with a happy story, my school has admitted three International students for their senior year next year, so things like this can happen.

Good Luck.
