Our fax machine periodically receives junk faxes which we’ve been ignoring. It has become annoying though, so a few days ago I started calling the number at the bottom to have our number removed. So far today we have received 7 junk faxes. That’s more than we usually get in a week.

Is there any chance the fact that I’m confirming the number is creating this problem? Is there anything I can do to make this stop?

We get this at our office too. It is annoying and a nuisance. I don’t have the time to sit and call the numbers at the bottom. It is a waste of paper and just as bad as junk mail…maybe even worse
A lot of them are local restaurants sending their daily lunch specials , but claim they don’t know how to edit their fax list.

Additionally, check your state Attorney General Office website. I recall hearing a story about a local guy who took a junk fax advertiser to court and won some money, but I can’t find any links in local papers.

Thanks. It appears that just having our fax number in our advertising gives them permission to fax us. Sounds dumb to me. I’ll see what I can do about that.

My solution … I own a store that receives inventory lists of 10+ pages several times a week … is to use a fax program that brings the fax directly into the computer where I can delete or view or print at my option.

We also have a toll free number …for our customers, and NOT for sales people to call. When my husband goes to trade shows, we have business cards with the regular phone number on it. I don’t want to pay for calls like that.

My fax number used to be in our bedroom and one book company got our fax number from my volunteering for Reading is Fundamental - it took me a good two years of threatening to report them to the FDC before I finally got them to stop waking me up in the middle of the night.
