Jury duty in Boston for full-time student?

Daughter just finished freshman year at college in Boston and received notice of jury duty. It clearly states that full-time students aren’t exempt from this. In our state, full-time students are exempt. Do students have to miss classes for jury duty? What happens if they get on a long trial? How do you keep up with classwork if you can’t attend class? Sorry- this isn’t something we’ve dealt with and would appreciate advice.

I was a full time student and TA when I was summoned for jury duty in California. Luckily it was in September before classes started.

MA allows people to postpone for up to a year for any reason. If the timing isn’t convenient right now, she could reschedule for a break or before/after the school year.

Thank you for the quick response and link. I’m trying to factor in flights sending her up there and where she will reside before/after the school year for jury duty?

Based upon advice found here, my daughter postponed hers for after finals next year. The school typically allows them to move out later to accommodate the jury duty. I have been told that judges understand when the kids tell them of any school related conflicts. Don’t know what to tell you about flights - maybe assume she will be able to stay for an extra week and schedule a flight for then. She should then tell both the school and the judge that that is her end date!
