Ok more like 44 hours. I am doing physics homework currently and it sucks. Anyhow i am excited!

I didn’t apply EA, but I keep thinking to myself OMG you guys must be freaking out.

I am actually using my physics homework to procrastinate writing college essays… Ah, mechanics - so comforting.

If you get deferred, don’t despair. I know a lot of people who, like me, were deferred and then accepted in the regular round. I made the mistake of taking deferral as rejection, and I was pretty depressed for a good part of my senior year as a result. I didn’t finish my applications to most other schools or bother jumping through all the financial aid hoops because I had resigned myself to state school (where I had a free ride). When news of my acceptance finally came, I was in for another 3 weeks of stress as I did all my financial aid paperwork (most after the due dates) hoping that I’d get enough aid that I’d be able to attend my dream school. Getting accepted but not knowing whether I’d be able to attend because I had given up and not followed through felt worse than being deferred.

Now that I have had several months to reflect, I realize how lucky I am to be here. Everyone told me not to set my heart on one school, but I did. I could just as easily have been rejected as accepted, and because I hadn’t prepared myself emotionally for the possibility of deferral I almost ended up at a mediocre school despite being qualified to attend plenty of good ones.

Most of you who applied early will be deferred. For now, you should just operate under the assumption that you will be, and don’t take it to heart if your acceptance doesn’t come. Have a plan B: do your finest on applications to other schools, complete all of your financial aid stuff in January, have a hell of a senior year, and cross your fingers. It’s all you can do.

One day to go.
Actually I think I have a good chance of deferral because I dont stand out. I just dont want to get rejected because I will feel like it was for nothing. However if i get deferred and then rejected its fine.

Hamsters advice is excellent. If you are deferred please reread the above post. It is essential that you complete all your applications with as much diligence as your current one. The unfortunate reality is that some of you will not gain admission to MIT. If you complete all applications to the best of your ability you will gain admission to a great school. If you don’t …
