I recently finished my last quarter of the MS-FAIM program at St. Mary’s College of California. However, I’m in a bit of a tricky situation right now.

One of the requirements was to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 for each quarter, with a “B” or higher for each class. However, I got a “C+” in my accounting class. I had been finishing up my undergraduate degree at the same time, and there was a five-week overlap, so I didn’t really have enough time to study. To complicate matters, it was the professor’s first time teaching a graduate class; he was under the impression that the passing grade was a “C” or higher, like for undergraduates, so there were a few other students in my situation. Nevertheless, he has refused to recalculate the grades for everyone. The then-director of the program told me that it was nothing to worry about.

I passed all the other courses, and right now, my GPA is just 0.002 lower than that required for graduation. A few other professors assured me that this would not be a problem. However, I was at a pre-graduation event last week, and I found out that I was one of the few people whose cap and gown were not ready. Incidentally, the PowerPoint presentation featuring recent graduates did not show my name. I was told that this was probably an oversight. This seems a bit too weird to be a coincidence. On the other hand, I was also told that I would be notified of any deficiencies, and I have not received any such notice. Should I be worried?

Thanks.
