just a black man lookin for chances

i heard northwestern is extremely good with financial aid so that might not be a worry…and i’m an african-american who got in this year and comparing your stats with mine you should have no problems getting in

coughbump*cough

I really don’t know what you expect people to say. You have good scores- that’s a plus… and you’re Black so affirmative action will help you. What more is there? Apply and see what happens.

Yo Jacques, this is Kevin. You’re definitely good to go for NU, so don’t let these people get you down. We’ll both get in, if you check the Naviance thing that the counselors gave us for our school, you can compare your scores and stuff if you’re still worried. Aren’t you going to be VP next year? So wouldn’t that be 4 years of student council? Oh, and what are your SAT II scores?

i think you’re in pretty good shape man, your application all comes together. when you write your essays, like you said, try and convey that you love northwestern and you should be in pretty good shape

I don’t even know why you’re applying to this school. You could easily get into higher Ivies.

what about you beanies, your stats are even better

haha kevin. herro. my SATII scores were 790Math, 750 Spanish, 680 USH (damn wild bill didn’t teach me *****).

i’m applying to some ivies too (princeton, cornell, penn) but i fell in love with northwestern when i visited. i just love the city, campus, location, people.

I’m sure we’ll both get in. Those are much better than mine: 750 Chem, 750 MathIIC, 610 physics (Houpt was the most useless teacher). Wait, why can you not apply early?

i can; it just wouldn’t be smart. how much money they give me is gonna have a big part in whether i go. if i get in and they give me no money, i don’t wanna get screwed and have to go there. i’ve also heard they try to do this. when u apply early, they don’t have to entice you with a lot of money cuz basically they’re in control. RD they know you’re gonna have other offers so they’ll be a little more lenient. i’ve also heard of people that said NU paid for them to come visit the school.

Whoa, nice. Do they do early action, or just ED and regular?

just ED and regular. only *****ty schools do EA.

what is even the motivation behind EA? i don’t understand it

it’s dumb if u ask me.

“if i get in and they give me no money, i don’t wanna get screwed and have to go there. i’ve also heard they try to do this. when u apply early, they don’t have to entice you with a lot of money cuz basically they’re in control.
Northwestern is quite generous with finaid… If you need it that is. If you really want to apply ED, I don’t think you need to worry about getting screwed. Also, the finaid program at Northwestern is like 99% need, so there’s really little room for them to ‘screw’ you- they meet 100% of your need as they calculate it, and you can always appeal a finaid decision.

As far as RD goes, there is little incentive for the school to give you more money just because you could possibly go to other schools. When a place like Northwestern has like 20,000 applicants, it will gladly just move on to someone else. Don’t get ahead of yourself- nobody is guaranteed admission.

And you can never be ‘forced’ to attend a school, ED or not. If you don’t like the finaid package a school gives you, then you can wait to hear from other schools. You may lose the chance at your ED school, but at least that way you can compare finaid packages. People think that ED means ‘total’ commitment to one school, when in reality, it does not. You can ALWAYS not attend the school that admitted you ED.
