I’m really want to go into some field of science with some kind of minor in spanish and eventually be a doctor.

i don’t think i’m a shoe-in, so i’m not gonna say it.
i know none of you people can tell me realistically if i can get in. i think it’s fun to have other peoples’ opinions though.

Hmm… I don’t see how you played football, basketball, and track for four years and also found time to be a sports writer for the newspaper… In addition to your AP classes of course.

his threads are funny… how can he be a national merit commended scholar and national acheivement scholar as a junior??? you can’t enter and you don’t win those awards until you are a senior…so technically this person should have already applied to colleges last fall/winter, and should be in one right now…

FROM NOW ON WATCH PPL’S THREADS… IF THEY SAY THEY ARE A JUNIOR… AND THEY ASK ABOUT CHANCES… SEE IF THEY WROTE IF THEY ARE ALREADY A NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR…BY THEY TIME THEY FIND THAT OUT… THEY WOULD’VE ALREADY APPLIED TO COLLEGES, AND IT WOULD BE ABOUT SPRING TIME OF SENIOR YEAR.

i dont think that stating NMS (atleat semi-finalist or commended) is that big of a deal since once you get the scores, you can look up past cut off for your state or your percentile rank (need top 5% for commended i think)

no you actually learn at the beginning of senior year (atleast i did). once you get your scores though, its not hard to see where you will fall.

the cut off last year for NA was 180. i don’t think it would be too much to assume my 208 makes me good there.
i already got a letter from national merit saying i was ATLEAST commended. maybe semi-finalist.
i’ve only played 3 years but i plan on playing all those next year. i am a rising senior and my coaches have already told me i’m captain for football and track. believe that.

my gpa isn’t that bad, taromakino.
3 A’s (One honors)and 3 B’s as a freshmen. (12+9)/6=3.5
4 A’s and 2 B’s as a sophomore. (16+6)/6=3.67
4 A’s 1 B as a junior. (16+3)/5=3.8

so if a rising gpa trend, increased ap classes, and test scores that put me in the 75% don’t get me in, i don’t know…

plus, you may have PLAYED many sports for 4 years, but you have to anticipate other applicants that are state champions and such

I’m not going to give my opinion on what your chances are, because my guess is as good as anyone else’s

plus you saying something like this “so if a rising gpa trend, increased ap classes, and test scores that put me in the 75% don’t get me in, i don’t know…” makes it sound like you already have a set answer to your question.

i’m a two time conference champion in track and all-conference in football. i didn’t put all my little awards and stuff in there cuz i didn’t wanna clutter it up and scare ppl away.
just give your opinion. if i didn’t want it, i wouldn’t post on here.
my opinion is that i’ll get in. you’re entitled to your opinion as well

thanks racnna. hopefully you’re right. a black kid in the grade above me similar to me got into everywhere he applied (hyps, unc, usc, duke, washu, and ut), so i got some huge shoes to fill.

just make sure you humble yourself in your essays (to some extent) and you’ll be fine.

I heard of a guy who put something along the likes of “If you let me slip by, you will suffer a great loss” and he was rejected by pepperdine (a small local private) when he wrote a respectable essay and was accepted to stanford.

oh i’m definitely not gonna say anything like that. i love northwestern. i fell in love w/ it when i visited last summer, and it’s been my first choice ever since. just everything about it. if i could afford to not care about financial aid i would apply there ED. i think i’ll be able to write a good “why northwestern essay”, and hopefully i’ll be there in 15 months.
