Just a heads up for UWB / Pre Med

UWB’s BST (Science and tech) department has asked the school to consider hiring full time positions in order to offer more BS degrees such as chemistry and expand our capacity of offer pre reqs for professional school.

The school replied by saying chem and most other science degrees are off the table for the next two years.

UWB admitted over 450 transfer students this quarter (thats a **** ton). A large portion of these transfer students came seeking a science degree / premed pre reqs.

To put it bluntly UWB admitted too many students seeking these degrees that it neither offers nor has the capacity to offer the pre reqs for.

Now classes like organic chemistry 1 have a waiting list around 100 students (after increasing the class size).
UWB is considering offering this class again in the winter.

UWB continues to advertise that it has “pre-med”.

UWB has no stats classes, micro bio w/lab, public speaking, ethics, or biochem w/lab.
The few pre-reqs the college does have are completely full. You’re lucky if you can get in them.
also bothell transfers cant cross enroll until they complete 30 credits here.
It is impossible to finish the pre-med prereqs in under 4 years and you’re better off just getting a degree.

Just another reason to choose a community college over Bothell if you didn’t get into UW Seattle (or other desired university) right after your HS. You can always transfer to UW Bothell if you have decent stats and try at least 2 times to apply to Seattle while you are in college, but good luck trying to apply to Seattle if you are already in Bothell!

I’ve only talked to 3 UWB Students on random humbugs and each said they were doing Pre-Med.
