Just a secret about SCEA and deferrals

Well

Yale initially accepted about 500 more applicants than it was supposed to

so, the day before decisions came out, they just moved 500 acceptances to deferrals, more or less out of a hat lol

so if you were a member of that 500, you will probably get in regular decision

i have a reliable source

If only…

Could you describe this so called reliable source?

Usually I don’t trust the internet but as a deferred student… I really want to believe that your source is reliable…

ok

well the guidance counselor at the best high school in NJ called duke and asked why their valedictorian was deferred and thats what yale said

500 is a huge number considering they admitted only a little bit over that (700 something?).

They say that they will accept 10-20% of the 2500ish deferrees. Thats 250 to 500 people. That’s probably what’s happening. They just have hunches on which 500 there are- probably flagged or something in their stack of applications.

if yale actually admitted 1200 students early, it wouldn’t look as good for the school

so they had to remove 500 of them to deferral. they probably separated the accepted—>deferral into another pile to accept them later on

the only possible problem is if the regular decision pool is much stronger than the pool of those 500. then, maybe a few of those 500 lose their spot

this is a pointless thread

there is no way this would happen, and you people who are getting your hopes up because you think it’s true are being misled.

 1. if yale did this, it would never actually admit it to a NJ high school. imagine how bad this would look, publicity-wise, for yale if it got out to a national news source
 2. called duke? what does this have to do with yale? disconnect…
 3. yale basically accepts the same number of students every year EA. why would they suddenly pick 1200 this year? makes no sense.

Do none of you understand that this is CLEARLY a joke? My goodness…

Word, spectravoid. I personally got a good lol.

^^ srry. just clarifying for people who didnt get the ■■■■■. which apparently DID happen.

whoops my deferral from duke still has me delusional

but you dont have to believe me

here’s the whole story

i think i may have said 4th best high school in NJ, i meant in america [High tech high school, sends a ridiculous # to top schools]

yale deferred both the #1 and the #3. so, the guidance counselor called and asked why they deferred the school’s best students

yale responded saying that they actually accepted an 500 more than expected, so they went back and removed 500 from the acceptance pool and moved them over to deferral. they didn’t realize that they accepted so many students [the pool was that qualified]

from my school 7 applied early to yale
2 accepted, 4 deferred, 1 rejected

yale defers tons of “best students” each year. in fact, i’m pretty sure the adcoms throw parties laughing at how many valedictorians/2400s they reject each year.
and, #1 and #3 still stand.
sorry about your deferral, btw.

spectravoid, do you go to High Tech High? I only ask because my brother went there.

cool

rolls eyes
im going to bed. night all.

Hah. hah. hah. hah. hah.
way to get our hopes up.
really.

wth how gullible can ppl get?!

I scoff at all ye who believe such madness.

Really, the situation spectravoid is describing never occurred.

Despite its absurdity, how I wish from the bottom of my heart that this were true…

i might believe this if it was <100 students. but 500? and i agree with others, why would yale tell any high school this information?
