just curious... do any of you guys consider yourselves "normal"?

i am a new member here and it seems everyone here studies with the “Blue Book”, magazine editor, community service for the wrong reasons, has legacy to top 20 colleges, received scholarships to almost everywhere, did an internship program with Sony, helped cure cancer, wrote a novel, etc…

what i want to ask is, do any of you do what normal teenagers do? like hang out daily, go out in the open sun, maybe experienced smoking or drinking, party, perhaps even get laid?

I don’t even know what the Blue Book is besides a list of fishing records in the state of Minnesota. I am not an editor of any magazine (though I wrote for the school’s newspaper). I did no community service, besides a few things that I volunteered for in association with National Honor Society (raked the yards of some elderly people…). I have no legacy. I did get quite a few scholarships. I did no internship, I did not cure cancer, I did not write a novel.

I do hang out pretty often with my friends (Dungeons and Dragons ;)), I do enjoy the sun, I stay away from cigarettes and alcohol because I abhor the smell of cigarettes and alcoholism runs in my family, I have attended a few parties, and I have never had sex - I’m kind of uncomfortable around women.

I am the opposite of all of that. I’ve never even heard of “Blue Book”, I don’t like helping the community, I’m not a legacy to any school I’ve applied to, I haven’t had a single internship unless you count Disney’s Happy Youth Slavery program, I’m still working on curing morning breath.

The sun makes me squirm and I involuntarily twitch around other teens my age.

Drink? Yes, apple juice is just dandy. And partying? Well there was my cousin’s birthday; they had a clown and bounce-around and everything!

Laid? I think I got one of those in Hawaii. Boy, are they neat-o!

I hang out and party, but not “party” party. Just a bunch of us hanging, dancing, playing pickup ball, whatever. Don’t need drugs or alcohol to have a good time.

Normal? Not really. But not really abnormal either. We may be more “academically inclined” or whatever, but there are clearly enough of us that we are our own subset of normal. Of course, I’m not one of crazily scheduled people with lots of impressive ECs. I am just smart with good numbers. And I want to be around people who are smart.

I’m not that smart. Just annoying. But useful. And I get the job done like no other.

Normal? I have OCD…self diagnosed, of course. Not the physical kind, either.

I don’t find it useful to hangout daily. I mean I sit back relax, watch a good movie, play some xbox and things of that nature. Nothing like going to my friends homes to sit on their couch to watch a good movie or play their xbox without true intent to have fun.

I’m an outsdoor kind of person. I try to run outside, but blah. No sun here right now.

Experienced both and they both suck as well. Sort of useless in my opinion. Both can kill you, both smell and taste like crap, and…well…it just isn’t my piece of the pie.

not much of a hardcore partier. I’m not much of a go to the club and dance and mingle and make small talk. I hate small talk. I don’t talk to people who can’t come up with anything good. I rather sit with a good friend and stare at the horizon than make small talk.

Only when I come across a girl who has the same interests as me.

i smoke, i drank
i’m supposed to stop but i can’t

I party as hard as I study, so no, I’m not normal. Don’t smoke or drink though, I have a future to think of.

I consider myself faaarrr from normal.

I

have

a

lot

of

crazy

habits

like

starting

a

new

sentence

for

each

word

I think you just described me… :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :p

Yes.

I have a life.

i think the real question is what is normal?

normal like get average sats or maybe even below 2000 on sat, think other stuff other than mostly college, not study all the time, etc…

bump…

Relatively normal-ish. I don’t “hang out” every day, but occasionaly I do. Never smoked (hate the smell( and I did drink when I was over in Germany. Stuff tastes like Dimetap. (sp?) Partying isn’t really my thing, I am occasionally social. But only if I have to be. ;)

That’s just plain stupid…not normal.

Not entirely plain stupid. After applying rationalized thought, it is. But some people are not so fortunate. They’re not provided with the right structure to be held on these grounds. Kids don’t listen to teachers, but their parents. When it seems like they’re not listening, they actually are. It’s not dumb in way or fashion.

In fact, if anything, smoking and drinking are the most significant recreational past times, ever. You only label them as stupid considering the social and medical costs. Science, theology, and others have swayed your opinion. That’s the problem. People are these neoconservatives. You don’t follow our ways, and you’re stupid and barbaric and we shall free you. Relativism, my boy, relativism.

False. I label them as stupid because they are.

^But I’m not even going to argue with you on this one; there’s no need. If you think that you are able to justify teenage smoking/drinking (or even adult) than you should go see a psychiatrist…seriously.

I’m done, no need to reply, b/c I won’t reply back. Smoking/drinking is stupid…YES, BECAUSE I SAID SO…end of story.

those are two of the most universally popular activities in the history of mankind

Have you tried either one? If you haven’t, then why knock it? It might sound like a simple and over used rebuttal, but it’s as true as the sun is hot.

I should see a psychiatrist, who most likely drinks, regarding making a case for teenage smoking/drinking (and even adult)? Look in the mirror and say that.

I can see where the OP is coming from when he asks if we’re normal.

Edit: if you never exposed to either one, it’s safe to say upon discovery or even an offer that you would give either or a shot. You’re human. They’re human. I’m God. Trust me, I know.
