S1 is a junior at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. At UMN you do not get your first semester bill until mid-September and payment is not due until early October. This way books can be charged to the tuition bill, scholarships can be credited, and all the classes are correct as the bill comes after the date classes can be dropped/added. I think this is odd because the students have already lived in their housing, ate on their meal plan and attended classes before anything is paid, but I LOVE they do this. I was just curious if any other university does their billing this way. (S2 payment is due upon confirmation of their schedule in August.)

not done that way in Indiana, sadly! Ours due Aug 10.

Lots of people looking at the site, but only one reply so I guess UMN is unusual. I know friends tell me that their bills are due anywhere from June (because they get a discount if they pay early) to the beginning/middle of August (like S2). I guess it probably doesn’t make much difference as we still eventually have to pay, but it is nice that books can be added to the bill and we that pay for the actual classes taken. It probably causes less confusion for UMN, and I know it causes less confusion for me!
