I’ve always wondered why I was rejected from Yale undergrad. I was applying to start as a freshman in 1993. (I wish there were resources like this back then!)

Let’s see what I can remember here…

I had a 4.0 GPA and was valedictorian (although my graduating class was extremely small…try single digits). My SAT was 1310, and my ACT 30. I have no idea how these numbers compare to the revamped tests. I get the impression they look paltry compared to today’s scores, but these scores qualify me for Mensa membership, if that means anything.

I was president of the student council and the National Honor Society. I had been active in both for all four years of high school. I attended the HOBY and National Young Leaders conferences. I was a National Merit semi-finalist. I belonged to drama, French, Latin, and glee clubs. I played tennis my junior year. I was editor-in-chief of our yearbook senior year and copy editor junior year.

I was involved with a lot and very busy during my high school career. My parents and I knew next to nothing about the college admissions process, and my guidance counselor left a lot to be desired.

I believe my two essays were good. I talked about growing up a military brat in one and how that informed my worldview. IIRC, the other was select excerpts from my journal. The only entry I remember talked about the definition of art.

I don’t know if this is important info, but I’m white. I also needed financial aid.

Thanks for any opinions/replies!
