Just for fun -- Haiku!

<p>Oh Hey There Karen
FA awards from Saint M
Makes Twins smile with glee</p>

<p>Earlier the one
from Portland caused rejoicing
See the patern here ;)</p>

<p>Don’t give up on Scripps
a math 580 did hurt
D’s Acceptance odds</p>

<p>SMC came through?
Glad that Twins are happy.
Still lots of choices!</p>

<p>affordable yes
for D least likely to go
not so much for sis :(</p>

<p>But EFC used
was estimated higer
than reality</p>

<p>adjustments for her
are likely and positive
So glad we made less ;)</p>

<p>geek-mom I shared it
her belly laugh was music
Cheered her up indeed</p>

<p>Extended family
my haiku pals on CC
supporting our kids</p>

<p>Ah, so many posts,
but the '13 thread’s quiet –
grad moms gone summer.</p>

<p>(Hair color cures all –
and if things get really tough?
Margarita mix!)</p>

<p>June is for juniors
beginning applications
with anxious parents.</p>

<p>Just over a year
and done with “senior season,”
now I feel so old!</p>

<p>Today I wondered
where to make my thousandth post
(senior member? w00t!),</p>

<p>for I owe a debt
to other parents who’ve shared
their experience.</p>

<p>I must pay forward
collective wisdom/support
in my own small way.</p>

<p>So, how to pass on
the wisdom shared on CC
by others before?</p>

<p>The Finaid forum,
where folks busily discuss
merit versus need?</p>

<p>Or on Common App,
where just last January
things were so hectic?</p>

<p>Perhaps Admissions,
where they weigh the pros and cons
of a resume?</p>

<p>Aha! Now I know
The perfect contribution
for my thousandth post!</p>

<p>I’ll use it wisely
to stage a resurrection
of the haiku thread!!! :D</p>

<p>Sigh… Too late, I find
my fav’rite thread’s been banished
off to the Cafe… :(</p>

<p>Summer summer time
I hav’ to work all day long
Do you see what’s wrong?</p>

<p>geek_mom, don’t despair!
This thread is such a tonic.
Senior-hood can wait.</p>

<p>Your yellow symbol
Glowing at the lower left
Says you still ponder. :D</p>

<p>I commiserate
sharing the dreary indoors
with you, coolweather…</p>

<p>I don’t see the sun,
but neither does my grad son,
sleeping in all day!</p>

<p>He worked hard this year
and will work harder next year…
now he takes a break.</p>

<p>I am grateful for
extra hours to pay the bills,
but… I envy him… :o</p>

<p>HarrietMWelsch!
How nice to see you again:
I missed your humor!</p>

<p>Why, thank you, geek_mom!
Glad to hear that your grad son
is taking a break.</p>

<p>Mine just left, bound for
a midnight IMAX showing
of Transformers. W00t!</p>

<p>Brand new to CC.
Is this the place for a dad?
I’ll see what you think.</p>

<p>Hello dad2four!
Dads, minorities are us
As fas as I know.</p>

<p>Minorities yes,
But always welcome here.
Warning, addictive!</p>

<p>Dads welcome of course!
I discovered with surprise
how many are moms.</p>

<p>There stands my coffee.
The cup is nearly empty.
Why so groggy still?</p>

<p>It is well past noon
I cast an expectant glance
The post should come soon</p>

<p>Mailbox flag is up
Envelope from the dream school
But he’s not home yet</p>

<p>All day long, it calls…
could I steam it open
just to take a peek?</p>

<p>The clock ticks… I wait…
Rehearsals and sports practice…
He’ll get here… just breathe…</p>

<p>Wait a second here.
Is this “Let’s Do the Time Warp
Again?” I’m confused.</p>

<p>Oopsie… Harriet…
Sorry to confuse! I
followed PA dad.</p>

<p>Some haikus I post
are not necessarily
my experience.</p>

<p>Some are general
and only some have to do
with my own geek_son!</p>

<p>(However, that was
exactly what did happen
here last December!) :o</p>

<p>What is the movie
Your college-ready kid
Has seen lately?</p>

<p>Mine went with friends
To watch the just released
“Transformer” last night.</p>
