Everyone always scolds those who apply to an Ivy League “just for the heck of it” or “just to see if I get in.” Has anyone ever applied with those carefree ideals and been accepted? Did you wind up attending?

Lots of money, some have less than 10% admittance rate, you need 3 subject tests sometimes, and you might have to give an interview to get accepted. I think that only people with 2300 or 34s should bother applying because Ivies reject more than half of applicants with perfect scores.

A nice “We regret to inform you that you have been declined from regular decisions Harvard University…” letter to hang on your wall? :-D

i actually applied to an ivy just because i promised my grandpa i would. it was really on a whim since i was set on going to a small lac. but i applied and, surprisingly, i got in. even though i had this acceptance, i still wasn’t really sure. people were like, whoa how could you turn that down? but name didn’t really matter for me. but i visited it, fell in love and now i’m very happy.

What a waste of application money and time to do so…

When I pay 75 dollars, I will put the same effort I expect from doing anything I pay 75 dollars for.

The “top” schools usually have more money in the way of endowments, making it more likely that they’ll offer you a favorable financial aid package. It’s probably not cheaper than a regular state school, but it’s often a good thing to consider.
